Got out on the ice twice over the past few days and found the fish dont like me. Went 1/4 over 2 trips and the one was only 2 lbs. Sure felt nice to be out. With the ice so sketchy this year I made darn sure to check every step. Marked a ton of good sized marks and the guy who was with me on the first outing got 4 fish one being about 8-9 lbs. Fish seem to be liking a horizontal bait. Be safe out there

Joe,
I appreciate your your question but not going to give specifics at this time. There's not much ice and with the recent tragedy the reason is obvious.

Church had 1.5 inches black ice, 3 white (shitty) on Sunday at 18 feet. no one went past this pt. So would recommend NOT to go there with the warm weather that we're currently having over the next few days. just perch also. things should be much better in 2 weeks, maybe less, with the cold weather coming.

Well Dan, if you want to keep things quiet for now, that's up to you. A lot of people, myself included, use this board for ice thinkness at their favorite locations. The stories and pics are nice, but i go here for that reason. Enjoy the season. P.S We all make choices in life that have consequences, but we are adult's, and can make our own decisions. just a thought cheers

Joe,
Fair comments and I've always been open to reconsider decisions. I was fishing out of herchimer. Hiked out to the main channel on Monday it was 4" ice of which 3 were black 1 inch grey. Talking with a buddy who was out yesterday night the black has all changed to grey and the warm weather has kicked up the melting and current. I probably wont be back out that way, as it wont be safe, until after the cold weather were anticipated to get.

Damn right. You do a great job on the site Dan, the only ice report I would feel comfortable giving are that some of the ramps are still open.

I wouldn't say either Dan...

Exactly why I limit my posts here, sorry Dan

Even though we are all adults, it surely wouldn't be a nice feeling if someone took any advice on ice thickness/safety and a tragedy happens.

Ramps are open/closed, there's ice in my drink.

Otherwise, check yourself, use common sense, and be responsible.

I also don't think it is a good idea to give out ice conditions. It is best to check yourself with a buddy. Ice thickness can change in a matter of hours on Quinte. Just look at what happen in a few hours on either side of the Deseronto Bridge ON Wednesday morning. At 6am there was an inch covering all areas. By noon the ice was gone for miles on both sides of the bridge. As soon as temperatures go above zero ice starts to melt and current speed goes up. Although this is one of the worst areas for bad ice, it can happen all over the Bay. BATMAN

To be clear I hope if one of you were out and found unsafe ice you would let the rest of us know. No ice is ever safe and I would never trust my life with a website report of safe ice
