While speaking with a friend he mentioned that he has heard County Council is considering closing both launches in Wellington.

Any truth to this?

If so please spread the word and contact any counselor, road department, parks department manager etc. you have access too.

I don't want this thread to turn into a tourist bash but it seems the council can't manage tourists so it's easier to limit locals and outdoorsman.

That would appear to be true....if you go into the Prince Edward County website the minutes from the Wellington town council meeting Jan 28 are posted and they are recommending closing the Belleville street launch for the season. They are also considering closing the Beach launch weekends. At least that is how I read it.

I can appreciate the closing of the launch ramps in 2021, until the pandemic is well under control, but after that when thing should be relatively normal, they should be reopened to permit people to come and visit the County and spend some $$$$ for the local area.

I saw where the state of New York pr Ohio (can't recall exactly) are going to spend upwrds of $500,000 to rework and make the launch ramps bigger and better. People travel and use them, not try and keep people away.

Our ramps and facilities are a joke compared to Ohio. The mazurik ramp in port Clinton can hold more trucks and trailers than all of quintes ramps combined. And I’m not joking, use google images to see it. It would be nice if our towns would decide boating is tourism also. Bye that’s one of like 5-6 ramps in a 30 min drive that are similar capacity.

This sucks, I used the wellington st ramp often last year and parked down the road at field. No issues, not even once.

My understanding is this is not decided on yet.

If you have used or plan on using a ramp in Wellington to fish, hunt, go to beach, whatever. Please send an email asking to not close the ramps.

I certainly hope these are not permanent closures. I am not a local and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find good public launches and good access to the lake whether it is a boat, canoe or whatever one might own.

Is it caused by an influx of people using these facilities? In my area we are inundated with "out of town" people using our parks and they are not the most courteous bunch that is for sure. I don't like to group people together as "city" or "country" or whatever the case may be, however, the behaviour of some makes me wonder who raised them.

We have tourists parking on front lawns, parking in driveways and I have seen people parking in driveways having lunch under the shade of a tree. Garbage is left everywhere. Our fellow fisherman don't do us any favours either with littering and rude behaviour.

Saltydog. I have heard stories of "visitors" not taking the time to use the restroom facilities and taking sh%t$ on the beach. Just covering the waste and wipes up with sand.

That would be pleasant with the kids barefoot.

This past September I personally witnessed a dandy.

Pulling out of my parents house on a Sunday morning at approximately 10 am. 2 vans were pulled over across the road on the shoulder beside the public school. A grown woman had her pants to her ankles going to the bathroom. I was just stopped at the end of the driveway dumbfounded and she was just staring back. I couldn't believe it. This is right in the village.

My parents were told about people picnicking in there yard but were not home at the time. Can't 100 percent confirm that one.

I do believe a few very ignorant people are giving many visitors a bad reputation, but Holy...come on.

Now County Council seem to want punish locals and outdoorsman with boats instead of dealing with the tougher issue of how to manage the ignorant visitors and the lack of respect towards anything but themselves.

To all that read this thread please send an email.

I feel if these ramps are closed in 2021 they may be gone forever.

Bye bye the access I used for walleye, puddle ducks, diver ducks, trout, salmon and just plain old Beach days.
