I am astonished with the selfishness of our society. I get it, no one likes lockdowns. We live in a democracy (which is on life support) so people can be open and critical, that’s a right. However, with rights come responsibilities. When people do whatever the hell they want, they are not living up to their responsibilities. We are supposed to have a responsibility for one another. That’s what this Virus is bringing to the forefront- that no one gives two $^its about anyone but themselves. Most get the sniffles? These variants are now putting a much younger demographic at risk, and filling our ICU’s. surgeries are cancelled, and doctors are seeing limited numbers of patients. We all have a job to do. I am glad that I have had a pretty cushy life so far, and haven’t had to endure a world war, conscription, or famine in my 42 years. If the most we are being asked to do is tag home, not gather in groups, and heaven forbid isolate with the internet, then I don’t understand why this is so damn hard? Come on people, you don’t want communism, you don’t like the responsibility of democracy, so what is it going to be? Every man for himself? Not the country I loved so much in my youth, times are changing. Very worried for my own kids.

Selfish... that is an interesting term.

I can only assume from the posts you and others have made on this board that you are nervous about COVID (rightly so) and you agree with the measures that are being used (enforced, and with suspect results) to combat it. But lets break that down a bit. I will use the terms "you" and "me" only to make the point.

You have asked me to stop fishing - to make yourself feel safer;
You have asked me to stop working - to make yourself feel safer;
You have asked me to stop meeting my friends and family - to make yourself feel safer;
You have asked me to stop going shopping as I had regularly done - to make yourself feel safer;
You have asked me to get a medical procedure (untested at that) - to make yourself feel safer;
You have asked me to cover my face for months on end - to make yourself feel safer;
You are willing to openly shame me if I disagree - to force me to conform to your sense of safety, to discourage others from disagreeing with you and to make yourself feel safer.

I have asked you to do nothing and somehow I am the selfish one?

The worst part of this is, you agree with the government enforcing these restrictions on my liberty, which means you are willing to bring down the entire force of the state on me - to make yourself feel safer.

Please, stop letting politicians and the fear driven media divide our citizenry, country and culture.

This will be the 2nd year that the wife and I have missed opening day of fishing here in the beautiful 1000Islands. They have opened the boat launches for for boaters to get their boats to summer locations but warn us with the stay at home order we can't be caught on the water. Enough is enough and think government has gone way to far with some of these stupid restrictions. To take away some quality time between a man and his wife or a father and son for two long years is a crime. A couple sitting in a boat is no more dangerous then if they where at their home, everyone has learned how to follow Covid 19 safety rules and will follow them going to the water just like they do going to the doctors, walking their dog, exercising or shopping for food. We all know Covid 19 is NOT going away any time soon, not this year and maybe not next year. So please concentrate on everyone getting both shots and our mental heath. Our mental health might end up being a bigger threat then the virus its self. God bless and stay safe.

The post by Billy Dee above can only be described as common sense by almost any rational thinking person who has lived their whole life in a free society. If you have a different opinion about his thoughts and what he has posted.............................................. then you are free to have a different opinion.
The big thing is that we are all free to have an opinion, AND VOICE IT FREELY! Millions have died for this right!!!
I have no problem with anyone stating an idea or ideology I do not agree with, what I have a problem with is when they try to jam their #### down my throat and force me to do something I do not want to do.
Do what you want as long as you truly believe you are not hurting anyone else, like fishing in a boat near not 1 other person except the 1 who comes up into your face to tell you it is not safe, or visiting your mom or family.
The government has never been known to always have your best interest in mind, they look out for themselves first. Tell me I am wrong but show me facts that I am wrong first. Oh, you couldn't could you.
John

Billy Dee,

I was about to try to offer a proper reply to this subject. You hit all points perfectly. A tip of the hat to you.

Sanderman, your post wasnt racist a number of the replies were so I took the whole thing down. I sent you a pm

If there are racist comments in a post, then remove that post. Don't remove the entire topic.

And if the person responding to the post was making a vaIid point; aIbeit, with off coIour or offensive Ianguage, it doesn't mean he or she is wrong. Do you not think it is a reaI probIem when peopIe are kiIIing fish out of season before they spawn? There were hundreds of big dead waIIeye fiIIed with eggs that were kiIIed before they had a chance to reproduce.

There is a reason why the number of fish in the rivers, bays and Iakes are far fewere than they were 20 years ago.

If that is not worthy of discussion, I don't know what is.

If that behaviour isn't stopped, then you can expect peopIe to stop making the drive or spending their money to come here to fish. Why go through the troubIe and expense, if aII you can expect is one or two fish when you arrive?

Fishing out of season is wrong. It shouId not be done; by anyone. Period.

using a pitchfork to stab fish in the back whiIe they are in 4 or 5 inches of water isn't fishing. Doing it whiIe they are tyring to Iay their eggs is immoraI and unethhicaI. Period.

It shouId not be happening. Someone in authority shouId be stopping it from happening.

The DFO has ruIes and seasons for a reason. AIIowing anyone to break the ruIes wiII resuIt in a coIIapse of the stocks and the fishery. Then what is this forum going to be used for?

Boat docks and battery probIems?

Sanderman,
all of your points have been raised here before, including all the counter-points to your points. This forum has been there... done that... its the same every year. I am not wasting my time playing ground hog day on this topic.

Just because you have controI over what someone writes; does not mean you are right to censor what he or she thinks.

It aIso doesn't mean you are right. There is a word for peopIe who want to controI what peopIe read, see or think........anyone guess it?

I guess censoring someone on the internet is a Iot better than going through the troubIe of starting a fire in the street and throwing books on it. Pretty much the same idea though.

I have been on this site almost since the beginning, and have no problem saying it is 1 of the smoothest running fishing or hunting sites I have had the pleasure of being a part of. Dan has done an outstanding job keeping egos and internet warriors at bay while still letting threads weave there way along.
Bottom line, this is his personal site, he is the moderator and owns the bat, the ball, and all the gloves that the players use. He also cuts the grass and rents the field we play on. You don't like it, bummer, go play somewhere else instead of trying to tell him he needs to change game rules to suit you.
I have never met most of the regulars that post here, but can only guess that the Merland get togethers or the Ice derby would be a hoot.
Keep up the good work for another 20 years Dan
Thanks, John

If you want to complain about Covid, or the government, there are plenty of other sites where you can do just that. If you want to complain that the fish aren’t biting, this is the site for you.
