I've caught a Iot of sheephead; but they aIways go back in the water. I thought they were inedibIe (taste Iike crap I have been toId) so I never even considered keeping one. I came across some onIine video's of guys catching them and taking them home for the tabIe. Everybody who I have seen says they are good to eat, but this is the exact opposite of what I have heard from the guys where I fish.

Has anyone tried them? What is your honest opinion?

Ate them years ago when we had a family cottage on Erie, same as white fish you lean them fard for all the meat and you will get the fishy oily taste.
Check out this video and see where it takes you.

I had one a bout a week ago and other than the explosive diarrhea, they are pretty good.

Yep I have eaten sheephead several times.... I make sure to cut the darker reddish meat out, coat in a breading mix.... fry in oil and enjoy. Tastes fine.

Me as well. They are good eating. Only advice I could give is smaller the better tasting. I don’t think I’ve ever tried one that’s over 5 pounds tho

Yes the smaller ones definitely better tasting. Years back we caught an 11 pounder in the fall.... was not going to survive... it tasted okay.
