With the boat in the water on Saturday, it took a couple days to get out and actually fish.

PerfectlyPat and I hit the water on Monday and headed over by Ram Is to a spot that has produced in the past around this time of year, the fish were not there.

Headed over to Kingscourt weed bed and trolled around there, Pat hooked something, took a bunch of line and then the line snapped. We never saw what it was, but I have a suspicion that a carp or sheepshead foul hooked and it becomes impossible to move. That's fishing. Nice to be out.

Hit the water again on Tuesday the 25th, our 56th anniversary and headed back to Kingscourt, it was her idea to fish there.

A number of boats were circling the weedbed, but we headed into the shallow water close to shore and sure enough, Pat yells, "I've got something" A short but scrappy fight and into the net - the 1st fish of 2021.

A short while later, Fish On she says, this is pulling in a strange fashion, well she brought it to the net and I could it was a crappie, Holy Cow - 1st one ever on Hay Bay.

In the meanwhile, I was hooking and landing several nice eyes in the 16-18 inch range and the live well was filling up.

We trolled around for another hour and she says "WHOA Something big" She has to wrangle the rod and reel, but she slowly brought the fish the net, a huge pike. Pix taken and fish weighed - 8lbs 10oz.

What a morning on the water, Walleyes, Crappie and several pike (one biggie)

Landed and found a neighbour to take a pix of the both of us.

All fish were caught on the Uzick Spinner, both colours....

It was fitting end to a great morning on Hay Bay to celebrate.

Stay Tuned

Great report, SuperDad.

I seen a dead crappie in Hay Bay last week and years ago, one was on the surface in the Flats that was by far, the biggest crappie I've ever seen. Thought it was dead, gave it tap with the tip of my rod and it swam away.

As for big fish and broke line, I was in that area on the weekend. My buddy was reeling in a smaller walleye and a huge musky about 4' long tried to grab it, at boat side. Scared the crap out of us. :-)

Cheers

Congrats on your 56th anniversary and a great day on the water. Glad hear you’re back on the water and look forward to reading your reports David. Cheers!

Ps - I’m very very low on ripple worms.

Congrats to you and Perfectly Pat, Dave. My Pat (her name) and I will be 45 yrs on Sat. coming. Not sure how they made them because mine is stubborn enough to put up with me for this many years....lol. Great day out fishing going by the catch and again congrats to you and Pat.
