My catalytic converter was stolen from my truck today at the Wicklow parking lot while I was out fishing. It happened between 6 am and noon. Police were notified.

Oh man, what is happening to The World We Once Knew???

That is simply too rotten a situation to happen to anybody simply trying to have a good time on The Water.

It also threatens usage of that Ramp; there's simply no way The Legals have time to patrol it.

Thieves will be thieves...but I also blame the scrap yard dealers for paying the criminals. They are just as complicit. It's pretty obvious when someone brings in a cat on its own, or worse several times over, for cash. These POS should be locked up alongside the guy that crawled under the truck. It's pretty simple...just make it law that every cat in your possession has to have a VIN from the original vehicle attached to it.

Was your truck a Ford ?
F-150's and Prius are the top 2 targets for cat thieves.

Happened to my F-150 last summer...parked on a residential street. The muffler shop I took it to said he did 10 to 15 cat replacements a week !

I don't think most of them go to the scrap yards. Guys are buying them for a lot of money.

Yes...the platinum, palladium, and rhodium in cats are all north of $2000 an ounce...but it's scrap metal dealers that are buying them to recover these precious metals...who else but metal recyclers would ultimately buy them ? Cops told me the going rate is $300 to $500. It's a racket..

Not sure what you mean by "guys"...

Parking areas at boat ramps are easy targets, because it's easy to see that the vehicle owner is gone out of sight, plus trucks and 4X4's have higher ground clearance

..let's all keep an eye out for each other.

A lot of people remove them off vehicles going for scrap now and find buyers.
