Now that I have the boat for it I have been planning on making a maiden trip to Lake Ontario for smallies all summer but life priorities have been getting in he way. If a nice weather day and time match up I was hoping to get a day in before winter. My question is whether it is too late in the season for them. Especially when I haven't been before. I would most likely just be fishing around Amherst unless anyone has any other suggestions.

And what about fall pike fishing in the big lake?

Thanks
Glenn

Now until end of October pending on how cold it gets. Is the best time to go out and slam some monster smallies. Good luck be the time of your life. I would shoot for 20-45 feet. Rock piles you’ll love it.

With the new season you can fish them right through to ice up. Some of the best action on the season but look for the bite deeper out with a shallow bite on nice sunny days

I managed to make it out on friday. Beautiful day out there. Ended the day on the south side of Amherst around 4:00. Crazy how the water changes from a nice chop to riding rollers and working the abs. Boat handled it fine though. Ended up landing some fish after I found them. Biggest was 5.5 lbs. Short and stocky she was.

Can't wait to get out there again. Just what the doctor ordered.
Thanks to all for the help.
Glenn
