Spinning reels will cause line twist. If you have any slack after casting and then the bail makes half a rotation before closing you get line twist. Also if you reel while a fish is taking drag, you get line twist.

Did I mention you get line twist with a spinning reel.

I use bait-casting reels for 99% of my fishing, but when I am forced to use spinning reels in finesse situations, I am careful in preventing line twist. I back-reel when fighting fish and flip the bail with my hand.

flipping the bail with your hand is a good idea, I've just started to get in the habit of it 8)

Hey hoser, those little knots are called wind knots. I know a lot of guys who get them when they use the lighter braided lines and/or there line is a few years old and has gotten a bit softer. I personally use 30# Fireline on all my spinning rods with a Flourocarbon leader. The Fireline is stiffer than most lines I have tried, therefore it doesn't become as prone to gettin all those wind knots. This is my preference, a lot of people don't like Fireline because of the stiffness.

Also you are on the right path by flipping the bail closed by hand after EVERY cast. I read once somewhere that in an average day of fishing you can put over a thousand twists in your line by not closing the bail manually. 8O 8O 8O

Good Luck

Hey Hoser, I have the exact same problem as you. Now I just use PP for trolling and Fins Evolution for casting. Same sensitivity as PP pretty much and much better casting, no problems at all with it.

I've been using Power PRo for a couple of years now and would never go back to mono. A bit expensive but worth it.

Good Luck.
