Good afternoon all,
Heading up to Lake Kash at the end of the month for a few days. Looking to get my 6 year old daughter out fishing with me. Ideally looking for walleye, or crappie. Not necessarily stuck on that lake, am open to any suggestions of smaller lakes in the area that may be worth a try for a day trip. Any help would really be appreciated. I live in the lake simcoe region, and looking to try and change up from the lakers and whitefish and also try and get my daughter into it!

Your going to the small lake capitol around you lol. I know the mazinaw has lakers in it about 15-20 minutes north on 41. But there is also a lake off of head rd. Can’t think of the name of it. I heard it has good splake in it as well

For what you're looking for Lake Kash is probably as good as any. As you probably know, lots of stocked trout lakes up that way, but I'm not convinced the MNR has been stocking the last 2 years...COVID.

Be aware that Lake Trout (with a few exceptions) are closed in Zone 18 until the end of May.

Kash is a decent Walleye Lake...not sure where you're staying but Brown's Bay on the north side, and off Long Point in the east basin are popular spots to punch holes. Big Gull Lake just to the south is a better bet for numbers of Walleye...the west basin off the river mouth is good, and Gull Rocks and around Pinnacle Point in the east basin are good bets. On the other side of hwy 41, Skootamata Lake has a good population of Walleye...usually a bunch of huts on the good spots.

As others have said, there's a bunch of small stocked trout lakes (Rainbow, Brown, Brookies and Splake) to the north and east...around the Plevna/Ompah area. The best ones require a sled or ATV (or long slog on foot) to access...check out Fish On-Line for stocking reports. And yes, OMNR has continued to stock the last couple of years...timing and numbers are down in some cases, but the hatcheries for the most part continue to operate...they need to maintain the brood stock.
