I've only been ice fishing for a few years, but this forum has helped immensely - thank you to Dan and others who share their knowledge.
Things are starting to click for me this year on BOQ, so I thought I'd reinforce a tip from this forum that will likely make a big difference for other newbies like me who are having a hard time getting the walleye to commit: Always have a rod ready with a simple jig head and minnow. Bring them in with something louder/flashier, but if they don't eat it, reel that one up and drop the jig+minnow down there asap. I got 8 fish last night and half of them on the jig/minnow follow-up presentation.
It's a simple tip, lots will already be doing this. But some of us get stuck on the idea that we have to pound the hell out of the same lure that brought them in
