Bath Ice Lakers

I drove the 200km to Bath and back a few days ago and was surprised to see open water.
Any info if it has firmed up yet or not?

A friend who lives in the area has been fishing the lakers. I don't know where abouts he was fishing but he told me 4-5". You've been around a long time you know the deal on ice safety. Good luck

About 15 huts north east of the gap yesterday. Another dozen or so spread across the north channel today. Saw guys walking out from Finkles.

Checking the ice a finkle's now. Maybe 4". Made it 50' off shore before calling it. This wind is just chewing away at the ice.

No one else around. Prolly not the safest to be out today.

Another time maybe.

Thanks for the intel folks.
I hit Bath on Monday. Few spots of 3 to 4 inches of ice but majority was 8 to 9 inches.
Lots, and I mean LOTS of surface movement. I went out to about 60 fow and gave it 90 minutes of effort. No lakers marks but lots of what I’m guessing was baitfish.
Would expect it to break apart any day now.

Took a drive down yesterday to see as well and only two huts were out one closer to the gap and one directly across from Finkles but both came off the island shoreline. There are two very large pressure cracks one closer to bath side the other from about the middle. Buddy was out last week on 4 inches but I won’t venture out there till ten inches or more. Winds can open up 4 inches very quickly and I know friends who have had it happen a couple of times when we were young and invincible! As for depths etc. I start in 40 but will cut holes out to 100 feet and work my way out if not marking. As far as baits the usual UV spoons in asst. colours big white tubes and white grubs in “large size”. I will at times drop a herring down on a dead stick line off a baitcaster with tension backed off spool release and indicator placed on the line. I jig close by and keep an eye on the herring. I have found most of the larger fish are not on bottom but rather suspended and if you get one you are working I can tell you that you can not reel fast enough up at times when those big fish are on! They will take the rod out of your hands if your not paying attention, Good luck and stay safe and pay attention to wind and currents.

Thinking of heading out Wednesday or Thursday to have another look at the ice. Has anyone else been out lately or anyone planning to head out? If so hit me up.

Drove past yesterday afternoon. Two shacks on the island side, way out. One closer to the gap shipping channel.

Seeing them made me think of the guy's bobbing around on the Lake Erie ice flow. That was solid ice, just not attached to anything.

Just looking for renewed info on the Bath local ice. Have family coming up from Windsor area for late ice fishing opportunities and from experience I know laker fights are amazing. Hoping to put my dad and grandson on some opportunities.

Drove down today. It’s still fishable but sketchy in some places. Huge pressure crack has opened up running from town of bath west to the stacks then it does a left turn out to the gap. Three huts out off pigs point and two huts not far out off Burdon shoal. Best bet is to take the ferry to Amhurst island and go out from that side. Shore ice is safer at the moment and main ice is between 8- 10 depending on the area. It should firm up again over the next few days with the cold temps. The Millhaven ferry trench has opened up to about 100 yards wide now with the mild weather nd the creek is carving it good luck spud spud spud

Thanks jignpigman for the update. Much appreciated. Saved me $50 in gas minimum. Now I’ll turn that into gas $ for BOQ walleye hunting and maybe a Toronto sportsmen admission ticket.
