I must be getting old because when I saw the wind forecast for saturday I decided I would rather check off a few more things from the honey do list. On Sunday my son and I headed to lake O for our first and last shot at smallies before the catch and release season closes on may 10th. We pulled into a bay to find 6-7 other boats there. The fish were there too but they were in a very negative mood. We caught over a dozen with many in the 4-5 lb range. Its cool to see so many packs of fish swimming around in same size groups. At one point we crossed a 6-7 fish that all looked to be 6-7 lbs and right next to them was a group of 2 lbers. If the fish saw you they didnt bite so the fish came from super long casts way in front of the direction the fish were heading and just letting the bait sit. Given the cold east blow from the day before I thought we did okay.
Monday after work I slipped the boat in at Deseronto and headed up to shermans point. Water was flat glass with lots of junk and debris floating that had been whipped up from the winds. After 45 min with no luck trolling headed to Ram island and threw on a bottom bouncer. Got a couple keepers but fish were not really happening. Picked up and headed to the cables lines and on the bottom bouncer there got 5 fish, some drum and perch, but all very small. Called it a night and went home. Water temp was around 57. Back at the dock talked with several boats and One had got 3 good sized fish trolling Tail Dancers all day, another pair of baots had fished the mouth of the NApanee river and reported tons of super small cigar walleye, drum and relentless perch. Hoping to get back out fri after work.
