Hi everyone
I thought folks might get a kick out of this pictue taken following a fishing trip 25 miles off of Vancouver Island near Bamfield this past weekend. We were fishing 190ft. plus.....with downriggers to get them, in addition to a couple of cod, 4 coho and 5 spring salmon (shallower depths for the salmon but apparently smaller springs can live there when they are young). Just a note following an enjoyable outing.

PS. Smaller halibut are called "chicken halibut" (15-60 pds) and are the preferred choice amongst the local avid anglers

i used to fish for them for a living back east .that red you see on there bellys used to cost us money at the market but if you make a small slice about two inches up each side off there tail it lets the blood drain out and they well turn all white.but that was for just to get better prizes at the fish plants they still tast great .our biggest was a 510.lbs female on long lines in 1000 to 1200ft of water on the atlantic. i fished for them for 7 years then got washed over brourd one nite in a bad strorm trying to pull our gear back in and when they got me back on the boat i looked at the skipper and said i quit that was 20 years ago this year.just looing at them brings back alot of memmerys. but they must have been fun on a rod.now you got be hungry for some fresh fish.lol
