Hey all,

Just curious what people are running for Lb test through the ice? I am thinking of going down in strength from 15 lb (mono or braid with fluoro leader) to 10lb or even 8. Weighing the risk/reward of a thinner diameter and less visibility (and more fish perhaps) versus losing the fish of a lifetime due to a weaker line.

General articles describe 5 and 6 lb test but they aren't typically fishing for 10+ lb fish in those waters.

Interested to hear some thoughts. Apologies if there is a thread on this down the forum and this is a duplicate discussion.

Some of my old-school friends only use the old standard 10 LB Trilene XL. I like to use straight 8 or 10 LB Fluorocarbon on bright sunny days. Early morning and late afternoon I use 15 LB braid with a 10 LB Fluorocarbon leader. Good Luck. BATMAN

Same here and once in a while I will drop my 10 lb fluoro to 8 or 6 lb.

Apologies for folks who've seen this before!

We ONLY use 6 lb Ande Tournament Mono... in fact the same line we've used for the last 20 odd years!

It just keeps on ticking!

Hugs, John

I would think 6 lb mono would definitely get you hooked up to more walleye. Personally, my heart couldn't take the stress. The possibility of breaking off a Quinte trophy every time you hook a fish would be too much. 8lb no problem. BATMAN
