This is a late report from last Tuesday on that beauty day with 22 degree weather and no wind. A friend and I launched out of Collins Bay and hunted around for smallies. Got in some shallow water and found water temps at 39-41. Water was unbelievably clear that you could see bottom in 40'. Saw a few smallmouth but literally 1 here 1 there. Some of them were belly to the bottom sleeping. Got up super shallow and found some warmer water at 44 and finally saw a few schooling up. Ned rig boated 4 fish all of them solid fish around 4 lbs. It's early yet but the next few warm days should have them starting to stack up shallow.
