Quinte Fishing

As a lot of you are aware I fish off shore a lot and guide in and around belleville and trenton. One thing that I have found is that a lot of where to go and fish is devoted to certain areas. These areas are being overkilled with people fishing. There are more favorable areas and just as good areas as Myres peir , Picton Harbour, and the Belleville bridge.Let me know when your coming and I will pm you and show you other spots to fish. Some of these are excellent spots that I keep a tight lip on.But with people telling of only the spots as mentioned above they are getting fished out. (TOO MANY PEOPLE). Because I wish to spread out people to help other areas not get slammed so hard I'm willing to put you on different areas that are not being mentioned.
Couple of exsamples:- last night at Myres peir there were so many fisherman and ladies that they were spending more time untangling each other than they were fishing. Net result , tempers were starting to flair. A couple of nights ago there were a lot of people fishing under the Belleville bridge and when they returned to their vehicles they found flat tires. This I'm sure this is caused from too much human pressure for these few spots. But this is no reason for this conduct.
I'm 100% for helping to protect our fishery but at the same time I really want to see people catch fish and have a great time. So after what I seen last night I'm willing to help out by not being so tight lipped and give up some of my areas that will out produce or produce just as much.
As far as what lures to use and methods needed I will pm that info also. Have fun be safe and bring back everything you took with you.............Ron

I've noticed many anglers on the south side of the Bay bridge. One night I counted I think 9 people. I have no idea how they would have managed. I tried off shore one night and got squeezed out when five others showed up.

This was an interesting item to note. Hopefully the vandalism can be curtailed.

Sounds like the same old same old, when I lived there in Belleville in the early 90's I seen the exact same thing happen then.

I know its a shame and when I was living there I even got into it with a few people because of there antics etc.

What ticked me off the most was the people taking WAY over the limit allowed, even knowing some of them doing it for profit and selling it at $9 a pound.

Anywho I guess some things will never change..........I was there for the first time in 6 years at the pier this past sunday and was fortunate that it was empty.

A new phenomenon has erupted: ANGLERAGE
There is also another human condition that I like to call RAMPRAGE.
That is when someone is breathing down your neck when you are boat launching. One such person did this to me and hastily parrallel launched his brand spanking new $60000 ski boat next to me on a single slip ramp. Well as luck would have it there was no cork in his drain hole (must have been up his you know what) and he started to find this out about a half kilometer off shore. Well he raced back to the dock and pleaded for my trailer to drop his boat on before it sank. Je regret mais je ne parle pas Anglais. Anyways, he managed to save his boat and no one was hurt. Sweet rapture.

There seems to be a lot of egotism on the water! Yesterday, I had once such character coming out of Picton Harbor… I was trolling north towards the straights out of Picton Bay, he decided to cut in front of me and had the “Balls” to stop his boat and proceeded to setup he lines right in front of my path.

wow! the very reason I have never tried fishing the salmon river! or opening day of trout season down here! To me..fishing is supposed to be a relaxing experience..I will come up in the summer and be content catching the 3lbers! or take my chances up North in a pristine Canadian shield lake where you might not see another boat all day! I have had 1 double digit walleye on for sure about 7 yrs ago but lost him..but if I never get one then fine..catching a 10lb fish where you might get 1 or 2 a year is more of an accomplishemnt anyway;)

I read this post very carefully and I really did not want to reply to it and now I feel that I should. Generally whenever there is a spot for shore fisherman to go to word travels very fast and for as long as I have been living in the Quinte area I have learned that the Quinte area is just as other places are during the salmon run. Bronte Creek, Salmon River, Southhampton and so on was the same when I was very big in river fishing for salmon and rainbow. This very practice will continue for years to come as it has been in the past.

I also read another thread posted on this site by BASSDOG and he has a different perspective of fishing the area and being a Belleville native as well it is refreshing to hear about the co-operation that is being displayed where he was fishing.

I do drive over the Belleville bridge on a daily basis going to my store and returning back home including weekends and I have yet to witness any behaviour that is described in this thread. I often stop and chat with the fisherman to see how their luck has been going. I know that some of you will slam me for saying this and I am prepared for it but this thread should be removed. As a business man I would only encourage visitors to the area and not post such threads as this one. If there are in fact many visitors coming to this site viewing postings such as this thread then I feel the negative nature of the way this thread comes across to the visitors may impact the Quinte area, local businesses and the fine people of this community. We should be encouraging visitors and local residents to come to Belleville and the Quinte area for the fishing, after all this is the Walleye capital of the world.

Please accept my apologies if I have offended anyone as that is not my intentions and I vote to have this thread removed.

It’s unfortunate these things happen, myself I try to remain positive and give great respect to others on or off the water, I would hope they do the same. I have many friends that visit me this time of year for the great walleye fishing, as I am acting as goodwill am”bass”ador for the area (sorry for the pun). Every year my friends come as far as BC western Ontario, Halifax & Quebec City. We have a blast!

My previous comments on this thread does not reflect my day to day experiences on the lake, most are quite enjoyable & love to chat with out-of-towners.

I love promoting the area and continue to do so; however, my wife thinks we should start charging rent!

I haven't had problems with other fisherman, just some guy with a russian accent who hounded me trying to tell me that ALL fishing is CLOSED he asked what I was fishing for and I said pike, he says "closed !! oh yeah, and bass is closed Nov 15" yeah....... in div 6, not 8, and try catching one from shore this time of year anyway. other than that I've been avoiding the crowds and putting the rods away for the rest of the year until trout opens next spring. then I'll enjoy a nice cigar and coffee before mending dry flies on the creeks, gonna be a long winter.....

I have to say sam you hit the nail on the head!!!!!!! lets talk about the positives in the area and when we personally come across the negs lets move on, by the way sam we liked your new store,and your lure selection I only caught one fish last week after we saw you, 12lbs sorry no fish fry from the boys of waterdown, next time .see you soon,Shawn

Perhaps the boating course should have something on launch ramp eticut.
Also how to prepare for launching boat before aproaching ramp. Some
people buy a boat and can't even back it down the ramp making it difficult
for other people to launch. People who load and unload while on the ramp can be infuriating

Sorry Sam, I have to disagree! I watched a number of guys at Merlands, obviously from "outta province" slaughter a number of double digit hens for food! The toxins in those fish, not with standing, it seems to me that they have no vested interest in the fishery's longevity, just come up for some meat... so call me selfish, but if some of those folks decide to go elsewhere because they are reading this thread, then I say good luck to them and good ridence!
