Which lakes around here are usually the first to freeze up and when do you think they will?

I just heard from a Buddy on Bob's Lake at Bowling Brook. It has ice over it now in that area.

Cataraqui Creek at Dupont (Invista) has been frozen for 2 days now.

.....not nearly safe but well on their way. :)

I hear there's nice weather a comin' so it will be a while.

Cheers

Moira lake will freeze before the bay. I heard that north of bancroft there is ice and snow and they were getting ready to groom the trails. There a a lot of lakes that freeze early. Check with the MNR

I was up to Madoc on Thurs and the west side of Moira lake was skimmed over with ice. We have a cottage near Plevna. It will definitely be iced over before the bay. We normally get 1.5 to 2 ft of ice up there. Ice fishing in Shorts and boots in late March is awesome.
The weather this week will definitely put a damper on hard water. No high temps below freezing for the next 2 weeks. The 21st forecasting up to 16 degrees???? come on!!!

Drove by Scugog today and the causeway is open as always but the rest of the lake as far as I could see was frozen, shore to shore!!!
I like the freeze up to be a little later but hey we got ice and its not going anywhere. On Tuesday I built an ice rink in the back yard and filled it and last night my son and his buddy were skating on it. 3.5 - 4 inches thick.
I was walking on it myself.
Anyone know how the ramps are in Belleville?

You may not beleive this, but Lake Ontario is frozen over from Oshawa to Rochester. The fishing is great. Bluefin tuna, baracuda and baleen whales are practically jumping out from the holes onto the ice. Global warming is responsible for this, just ask Mr. Gore. Now lets contain ourselves and wait 8 more weeks before venturing onto any open water ice. A medivac trip is about $5200.

With ice on any lake safety should come first. I know we are all getting worked up but never throw caution to the wind.
See you on the ice in Jan.

A link I have found useful for determining ice-out of northern lakes is this Great Lakes satellite image. The photos are updated regularly, so if you get a cloudy day, you might want to check back another time.

The Synoptic link is useful for central and northern Ontario, but there are closeup links to the areas round the Great Lakes. It's probably more useful for figuring out when the ice is off the lakes, but at least it's something.

Lemme know if you find it useful, eh?

Cheers,
Pete
