 Post subject: PORTABLE ICE HUTS

If you own a portable ice hut on skiis that folds up and down and is transportable, do you need a license number on it like the shacks that are set up on the bay for the duration of winter? I'm asking because a couple of buddies of mine and me want to transport our creation around to different spots on the bay daily and are unsure if the hut needs to be registered. The hut will be removed daily after fishing. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I asked this question to the MNR a few years back and the answer they gave me was "it depends". The determining factor was the square footage of the hut. didnt matter if it was portable or not it was how big it was. I dont remember the actual square footage but the MNR has a 1 800 number in the blue pages and they can answer that for you. If you wouldnt mind let us know what you find out. Thanks
Dan

Your right there Dan,

I also spoke to the MNR when I acquired a portable hut. I too do not remember the square footage. I attained the free registration number for my one man portable hut. It's a Fish Trap Pro. It was well over the square footage requirement at the time.

I have never been checked in 4 yrs on Quinte, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Like your guys say, it's free, but the possible fine might not be.

I tried to locate the 1-800 # in the blue pages and I couldn't find it. I found local and district offices and as usual no answer when phoned. I'm awaiting a call back regarding the portable ice hut registration. When it arrives I will post what they give me for a response.
