.......... No ice in december............ busy jannuary with unsafe ice, and finly comes a blustry cold febuary and i finlly make my way up for a lil BOQ hardwater fishing.
Got on the ice Thuresday morning. Point Ann . I good friend i met up there let me use his ice shack and thank god for that cause it wasnt fit for man, nor beast, nor crazy fishermen doing what they just love to do...... catch frozen fish!
Anyways Jigged for 11 streight hours...... it wasnt the great fishing, it was my sheer terror of knowing ill have to leave that toasty fine ice shack and freeze my butt off in the 60 KLM winds for a 1.5 mile hike back to my truck......... i should mention my friend has an ATV to get out there...........I DONT! ....
So 11 hours later the sun is almost down and in that time i cought 4 eyes all under 5 pounds. about a dozen perch , and i was out of minnows.. ... when i get back to my truck i realize i lost my ice fishing rod. back there. in the dark, the howling wind, the bitter cold........ poor fishing rod, it was such a good friend.......... as i waved a sad wave and fired up my truck...... all i could think is thank god i dont gotta clean any fish tonight! im frozen solid after leaving that 30+ degree shack
Friday morning....... I open my eyes, and think.......... humm i gotta go find that friend of mine and catch more fish . a quick stop for minnows, a cup of Tim's and maybe ill find that poll before some happy camper does........... back to point ann and wow everyone must have taken off friday from work ....... there was 25 guys out there id never find that rod im thinking, but away i go head down wind blowing, not as bad as the day before . and around the bend the shack is in sight, i pick up my pace. look to the right and there she is my nice shinny ice rig. 3/4ths burried in snow....... with man tracks, ATV tracks, and snow machine tracks going right by it.......... My lucky day
Day two in the same shack tried every jig i had more then once. 2 small walleyes,,,,,,,,,,, the shcak is cursed, as im leaving i walk past a shack and they have a pile of walleye on the ice ........ used the MR Champs. just like i did they hit them good........ Hope they were natives, cause they were in slot size violation if they wernt........ i said have fun and away i wwent........ now im up to 17 hours of hard jigging with a dozen fish cought, and relieced
Sunday I deside i need to work if im gonna get the good ones so I strike off to big Bay where i had great luck last year and today would be no different . I hiked out and fond the same area by dead reckoning spudded one hole. dropped a silver rocket and fish on.......... beauty perch 1 fish in 1 minute fish time ............ 1 hour later 12 perch . then a slack and bingo 3 pike in 20 minutes ............ funny how the perch leave and you get a smile knowing something good might happen and it did.......
I now tied on the trusty silver sidewinder......... and walleye jumped right out of my hole on the ice........... bing bing bing bing 3 10 pound + walleye, and a 7+ in 20 minutes in 3 hours i cought more fish than in 17 hours at point ann . and damm if it wasnt Daytona race day .....
Thank you guys i had a blast .......... my only time out this year and ill not make it up for the closing ...... by god ill be there for the spring opener ......... tight lines, and happy fishing

Grizzly, that sounds like a perfect weekend. I don't usually get down that way because I thought it was too far, but you coming from Ithaca just makes me feel silly now.
It sounds like you need a small portable and then you can skip the jinxed hut, and travel around.
I hope you enjoyed some Canadian hospitality while you were here, as well as some of the beer. lol

dido on the report. I fished Big Bay first time out this year and no luck. Mabey if i'm lucky i'll get out there again before closing. Point Anne was not very productive for me on Saturday but I caught some. Hear the east side was alot better that day. Glad you had a good trip.

There is no slot size on the BOQ. Your allowed 4 fish with one being in excess of 23 inches I believe.

Just a reply with sleeping with fishies........... yes sir. being from out of town im well aware of the rules, and regulations reguarding fishing the BOQ............... i guess what i should have said is in that pile of fish i saw there was at least 4 fish well over the 25 inch mark with two men in that hut thus putting them in a violation, unless of course they happened to be Natives. by the way i buy a conservation tag that allows me only 2 walleye. or half the leagal limit for a daily take , but i fish for the love of fishing, not to fill my freezer. this isnt to say im against people filling there freezer, but it would be nice to know they do it in a leagal manor, way i see it is the rules are put in place for a reason............. lets not forget the posted warnings about eating no more than 1 pound of fish per week taken from the ontario water system. happy fishing guys. take what you need, and put the rest back :)

Grizzly 3 or 4 Walleye over the 24 inch slot limit is a definite violation. Like you said if you had mentioned that I probably would have not responded. I cannot fathom why they would need to keep that many fish over 24 inches. Where's the Ministry when you need them?
