Couldn't make the trip this year, but my brother and 4 friends are having an awesome time on the Bay again this year. They arrived Saturday from Wisconsin and have been hitting it hard since Saturday afternoon. Largest fish so far are a 36-inch (14-plus pounder), a couple of 32-inch (11-plus pounders) and lots of 7-, 8-, and 9-pounders. They are catching fish every day, but the bite slowed down in the cold yesterday. Still caught fish, but they were not as plentiful as the Saturday afternoon through Monday bite. The boys are hitting Big Bay, but won't tell me the exact whereabouts. They have three more days of fishing, so I'll give an update when they finish up. Wish I was there....

Got fishing about 715 just got my first walleye of the morning it looked liked it was going to be a awesome fish as we did catch 12 there yesterday. Then something caught my attention, I looked toward shore and it looked like a bunch of guys walking out and then four wheelers and sleds and four wheelers, one guy looked pretty funny driving as fast as that old sled would go with a portable hut behind it going airborne off of every snowdrift. I never seen so many guys come out at the same time it was crazy from 800 to 930 I didn't get another bit. We had sleds and four wheelers racing back and forth picking up guys from shore I think they thought they were still on the 401 lol and augers running the whole time and guys yelling about 1km away at each other, I couldn't even talk to the guys fishing beside me , it was to loud out there.

I was a little pissed off this morning but those guys looked pretty excited to get up here and fish for some big walleyes and I hope they have some good days up here and catch some trophys. Oh and thanks for helping me decide were I'm not going to be fishing this weekend and the rest of the week lol!

I think that when you are fishing the hard water , all that noise makes a big difference most of the time . I avoid the crowds whenever I can .

ya I don't like the crowds, I think the americans won't get to many big fish there, its the end of the school until another one comes in and the time is running out. There is a lot of small fish there though and perch wow they will have fun with them. I went through 2 dozen minnows last weekend there with the perch, put it down and reel them up. I think I have another spot for the end but I'm sure there will be a few visitors

sirfishalot, Why do you assume all fish were kept??? Why do you think all americans are not welcome??
I myself like americans and have no problem. They are people just like us and like to fish and hunt just like us. 8O

ya I don't think all americans keep big fish maybe for a mount if they get one big enough, actually I feel the the americans are more graceful to put back a lot of fish, I've seen them through back more fish than most locals (because most locals will keep them just because if they don't the natives will get them). I caught enough eaters for myself and for some of my friends actually its been one heck of a year!

.... If you see a guy sitting way off to the side. alone, on a bucket. for 10 hours. its probly me. an american...... i do this so i bother no one, and cant be accused of moving in to close on someones fishing spot..........if you checked my sled on my way back you would see i have taken no fish from the water... that sure dont mean i havent cought any! ........ look off of point ann there is a lil ice hut village out there. im assuming that all them huts belong to locals not americans......... and when i see 5 huts all looking the same, painted the same colors, im thinking thats a canadian renting to americans who are seeking the almighty american dollar..........im thinking if an american takes the time. spends his money, for lodging, minnows , gas, and all that goes with it he should be intitled to take back his LIMIT if he wants to. no more than a limit, and no less if thats what he feels he needs........... you do know taking home more than a 3 day limit carries a hefty fine . so 12 fish dont seem like alot since they are pretty well bought, and paid for in the first place ......... ive seen locals take home a limit in the morning, and another limit in the evening. thats 8 fish one day ............. there is no answer. so why not just have fun fishing............. Men flock to the BOQ for the great fishing........... they come from all over Canada. And America.... start checking plate numbers of trucks parked on the side of the road. you will be amazed at what you see........... ask the bait shop guys who they sell the most minnows to........ Americans, or canadians................ then ask them if they care who they sell them too............. usually when i meet canadians on the ice they are very friendly, informitive, and more than willing to chit chat for a second or two. even let you fish from a hole they drilled and arnt using.......... its only here that i see people complaining about Americans. why is that? ........... and why do i never see the wordens out doing there job catching violators out on the ice? . there presants alone would save more fish than anyone griping here on a web site, about Americans, or illeagal fishing ............ good luck my fishing buddies. both American, and Canadian

Grizzly,
I think you better go & LOOK @ the REGS AGAIN :? .
Catch $ Possesion Limits are THE SAME.(ONE DAYS CATCH) I just went through the entire 05/06 REGS & there are NO exceptions to this rule.
IT IS ILLEGAL to take home a 3 day limit.
But that;'s OK.
YOU just told the FISHCOP where to find you.
You should Either play by the rules IN "MY BACK YARD" or stay home  & DON'T play at all. As for your comment that" They are already bought & Paid for",This is a typical American "I paid my money & I can do what I want attitude  & is the same Reason YOU Guy's don't have any Black Bears left.
YOU KEEP YOUR MONEY & we will keep OUR RESOURSES.

If you read the thread "...paid to fish.." I think you may notice that it was Grizzly that started with some concerns about the limit with a couple in a hut....probably Canadians too. :P

So is this more about Americans fishing our waters (hate to say "our waters" that way, we're all brothers and sisters from different mothers  ) or amount kept?

If it's the first, I know that I have the most disturbing time fishing salmon and trout in local rivers, with French people and those from the big TO. Talk about raping our waters and they're Canadian!

I'm having one of those days so I just had one of those odd thoughts......why does it seem that it's only the walleye that cause such a comotion if you keep some?!? If you think about it, that's kind of funny and I'm sure all of the other types of fish are jealous that the walleye have such fantastic tales of the time they spent being pulled from the depths of the mighty Quinte, yanked thru a hole on frozen water and apparently, thrown back down.

Either way...I'm jealous I haven't had this much luck.

Cheers

Wow, didn't mean to start a firestorm. Let's get something straight. One 11- and the 14-pounder were kept to be mounted. That's why we came up last year and my brother and some friends came up this year, to catch ONE trophy walleye. They've kept maybe 5 or 6 smaller ones that they fried up the second night they were there. EVERYTHING ELSE has gone back into the waters of the Bay.

The same was true last year. Out of four guys from the States, we brought back two trophies that are mounted and grace a wall for us to recall what a great time we had and the memories of an outstanding fishing trip w/ an incredible Canadian guide who lives in Belleville.

When I was there last year, we saw lots of fish leave the ice ... all by locals ... that would be Canadians. We never said a word, but we were a bit dismayed by the fact that so many big ones were seen caught, and just tossed onto the ice, then thrown into the back of the truck. I have no doubt that these fish were going to the frying pan. And, I have no qualms about that. But the Canadian who sits on his mighty throne and throws cheap shots at us Americans who are spending a lot of dollars to the Canadian economy should wise up and take a look around at your fellow countrymen who may not be so conservation-minded.

As for the hootin and hollerin, doubt it's my brother and friends. These guys are serious anglers who came to enjoy the fishing. My understanding is they've not moved much once they've settled on a spot for the day.

Talk about a show of ignorance on behalf of a few of my fellow canadians. This is disgusting, grow up people and get your mind out of the gutter.
