Hey.. I believe pike also closes along with the eyes on the 28th midnight.

Don't wish to see anyone finding trouble having a pike in their pail come thursday morning.

Please feel free to correct me if I have incorrectly read the regs. pg. 19 area 8 "quinte"

I was curious as well ... not being a regular BOQ angler, but curious nonetheless about fishing the bay after it closes today. How do they police it? I could see if it was a total close ... meaning a sanctuary, but temptation must be high if they still allow fishing for perch, and the angler lands nothing but walleye.

Unless the MNR website is wrong the season for pike is still open till March 31 the same as it has been for years and perch still are open all year same as it has been for years. The fish sanctuarys are in the spawning areas such as the mouth of the Moria and Trent ect. but they don't take effect untill April 1st. This is all in the 2005-2006 fishing regs which is still the regs the bait shops are still handing out.

Here is a link www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/pubs/pubmenu.html

Rocky Mountain Man,

As spring comes on the pike and the perch start moving in shallower than the were all winter. Some of the best perch fishing occurs in less than 5 feet of water on late ice.I fished perch in the bay 3 times last year after the season closed and never caught a single walleye. The "temptation" is no greater than catching a bass when fishing for walleyes in May.

According to the (2005-2006) regulations on page 20-21. Pike season runs from Jan. 01-March 31st and 1st Sat in MAy to Dec.31 Perch are open all year with. Crappie are open all year. Whitefish are open all year. On page 26-26-27 of the guide it states Consecon creek, Trent river, Moira river and Napanee river are all "Fish sancturay" from April 1st to the 1st Sat. in May. Interesting note is the Salmon river which is a walleye spawning river is not listed as a "Fish Sanctuary". I believe the Salmon is part of the Mohawk reserve.

Im still reading it wrong.............. yes even though there is open seasons for fish. perch. pan fish and the such it still says BOQ is a sanctuary and closed from the glanoria on in. it also lists east, AND westlake waters as a sanctuary also . keep reading it............... it lists the rivers being closd from april til may but it lists the bay as closed at the end of walleye season or March 1st until the walleye season i believe in May i dont have the cybis with me so im speaking out of school but ill be up in a few weeks and ill post exactly what it says, and how it reads witch leaves me to interpert in no other way than closed, means closed reguardless if another season is open apparently they can be fished, and cought in any other waters except the ones listed withch are and include the BOQ witch starts at the glenora ferry
there is no laws against fishing for fish out of season there is just laws against keeping fish out of season . a walleye dont know im fishing for pike or the differance between a perch jig or a walleye jig lol ......... they want fish to rest, and stage for spauning un herrassed i guess thats why they close some waters before a spaun . here in the states its usually just streems that get closed in some areas . but it clearly lists BOQ as a sanctuary . and says no fishing durring special times not no walleye fishing, not no pike fishing. it says NO FISHING!

Not mean to offend. But on which page of Ontario Fishing Regulations does it say "BOQ is a sanctuary"? I seems couldn't find it.

Grizz: Your post would make the most sense in protecting the species, but there seems to be a lot of confusion. MNR needs to do a better job of making it very clear, and then communicate it to anglers, angler groups, bait shop folks, etc.
