Anyone have any information on Rock Lake in Verona? My daughter just moved there and I'm interested in any information. :D

Cheers

They get some walleye and Pike but not in great abundance. I know with the ice shacks they have been catching crappie (Oswego Bass) this winter.

I suspect Howes lake would be better walleye fishing when the season opens. Gets very difficult later in the summer as too weedy. The fisherman then go after the bass.

If the water is high a small boat can go to Howes and Silver Lake from Rock. Silver Lake has walleye and I have personally seen some large pike come from that lake in the winter.

Thanks Traveller.

I think it may be Verona Lake? It's the one that is behind the gas station / dollar store.

There are a few shacks out. I've heard walleye were there but not too much if at all any more.

We setup some tip-ups and jigged a bit. The tip-ups had a few good runs and jigging, also a couple of great hits. 1 of them bent the hook so we lost it. Probably a pike.

I'll have the boat there a lot this summer so will see what's around.

Cheers

Yes it is officially called Verona Lake, Silver Lake is Hambly Lake, but if you called them that nobody in Verona would know what your talking about.

Thats funny about the locals not know what lakes you are talking about.

I had a great time fishing crappie their this past spring. I had also heard from the guy who lives right beside the boat launch that the pike fishing is really good through the ice and in the spring.

That's fantastic....I'm 4 houses down from the boat launch.

I've searched all over the internet and can find very little information on seasons, bait etc.

Is there a specific place for crappies?

Thanks everyone......I appreciate the responses.

Cheers

It is really, but when I moved here in 1975 the locals called them Rock Lake and Silver Lake. I know maps show otherwise but your not going to change their mind or mine either now. It is all what you get use to calling Lakes for a hundred years.

If you go right across from the boat launch there is a white house on a bit of a point. A few years ago I witnessed a fellow with a five gallon pail half full and they were some dandys, he was about a 75 yards off shore. I really don't ice fish, but keeping talking about it maybe next year. I usually get enough fishing in the summer at our summer residence on West Lake. Good Luck let me know how you make out. I live on Sand Road.

Hey guys, I lived in the Verona area until about 3 years ago, caught
quite a few pike through the ice on Rock, just out from the boat launch
( the one by Dave Duffy's for you locals) Silver is really good for perch through the ice and so is Howes, only ever caught 1 walleye through the
ice and that was on Howes. In the summer all three lake are great for bass and pretty good for pike too.
Hey Traveller whats your name? I probably know you, my name is
Ben Ritchie

Hey Bill I thought it was you, you were the only one I could think of with a bigger boat on Sand Rd. I didn't hunt there but the people I do hunt with used to live there and we stayed at there house during deer hunting. I do
know Dave quite well actually, I wasn't up there this year so I didn't see
him. Who do you hunt with up there?

Were the Black Oak hunting camp the Feeley's, Orsers, myself and several other we own a bit of land surrounded by crown land. We see some of the fellows with Dave every year. I didn't see them this year just wondering with all of the cutting if it hurt their hunt. We had a great hunt and time this past fall despite the weather. I guess we shouldn't talk hunting on fishing forum sorry about that.

Yeah thats probably true but I find it hard not to talk about hunting as well.
Do you do much fishing out here on Hay Bay? or are you more into the salmon/ trout out on the main lake?
