What he means is that Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte are participating in their annual spear harvest of the spring walleye run. Every year this topic comes up on this board. Based on the many hateful and outright mean spirited comments I have deleted on this issue over the years its plain to see it is a sensitive issue among anglers. There are a number of folks who post and browse here who are Anglers and Members of the Bay of Quinte Mohawks. Everyone is welcome here and the BS comments about this topic are not.

I agree, let these indigineous people of Canada do what they need to do to sustain a living. I mean we (everyone else) talk about conservation, but we have to realize is that these people have been doing this for 1000's of years with little effect on fish stocks, or more directly, an effect on the BOQ Walleye fishery.

How easy could it possibly be to spear fish? This sounds too difficult to be effective. They probably only catch a few fish and most of them would be carp.

Stop by any of the local rivers where the walleye run and you will see how easy it is...

There was a time when farms lined the road and most farms with shoreline had spears in the barn. Spearing was very popular with county residents, my Dads uncles speared so many one night the boat sank, so the story goes, but somebody fessed up that they put the spear through the bottom of the boat.

I was down there once and 2 men had 3 rain barrels full of fish, all sizes. It's people like that that leave a bitter taste in everyone elses mouth. I don't go down there anymore cause I don't want to know what else goes on.

How does that directly affect you? Why are you bitter when it is there right to do so?

I don't mind when they go down and spear fish in the rivers because its' there right but the thing I don't like is when they use gill nets and sell the fish comercialy.

I just wanted to be the first to bring it up! I keep walleye to eat to, but I also do it after the spawn. It would be nice to see PETA line the rivers here. I also know that many people that can spear don't and it's only the 1%ers, but do it with in reason guys!!! my 2 cents

. Sign sign, everywheres a sign, people walking around speaking there minds, do this, dont do that......cant you read the sign.......
Is the white man the indians equivilent to PETA ??? It seems quite clear to me that the reason the natives do this is BECAUSE THE LAW ALLOWS THEM TOO! ........... We are allowed 4 walleye in a daily take, and some complain about that too... some are in favor of a slot. some are for catch and reliece only..I see people complain about out of towners. and complain about people from the states, i guess it gives us balance, and something to read here.

.is one mans view any better than anothers?
