great idea cc lad but i think you might get a big fine aswell as them since it is illegal to sell fish or game wouldnt it be illegal to buy it?

Just called the local MNR (Kemptville) and they were not 100% sure. She seemed to think that you could be charged with an offence. She stated that I should call the local MNR and ask them. The supervisor of the CO's at Glenora who she referred me to is Derek Humber call him before you do anything like what I suggested. 613-476-2570.

What a terrible issue here!

I remember as a kid, salmon fishing at the Falls in Napanee. One morning, I was there around 5-6am. A guy fishing close to us, was using a texas rigged worm. Remember, I was a kid when this happened, before I get jumped for what I am about to say.

Of course, we used to use a Baker Bait Doodle Bug or Napanee Nugget....it was just a big chunk of lead with big, narley hooks. I'm sure others here may have flung these a time or two. It became an art in itself...one that I'm not proud of doing now but ahhh, the memories.

We were suspicious of this guy so didn't use these that day...our group anyways. Good thing too, he came back later that day, wearing his CO uniform and not alone. The charges were laid to those that were witnessed earlier snagging and had fish on shore with marks on them.

Another time, a guy I know, fishing close to me, sold a salmon to someone that was watching what was going on. Not 10 minutes after the purchaser left, the CO came and charged him with illegally selling fish. The CO wasn't even there, he just asked the guy if he did it and he honestly replied and lost all of his fishing stuff.

That changed my thinking and I became more aware of the laws and consequences.

Long story short...too late.....it's too bad they wouldn't do something like that for the walleye and spearing. I know they're under staffed but come on. Have just one of these people get nailed and maybe it too would put the scare in them.

If I'm not mistaken, before this was legal off the reserve, it was managed by selected people that lived on the reserve. So really, who now is managing and controlling it?

I'm not trying to stir anything here.

Cheers

There have been arrests made many times, the problem is they usually get thrown out of court.

Everyone is allowed an OPINION and Im thinking the opinion is very negative towards the SPEARING (yes it is within there rights). But what person in there right mind RAPES the RIVER like THAT! It's more like they do it out of spite to piss off people who do actually care about the fishery or any issue at that! And forget the spears BOYS they had the nets down there last night when my younger brother popped by! Just DISGRACEFUL, where are the Elders????????

Here's the link for outcomes of CO investigations as written by COs. Note the dress uniforms these poor SOBs have to wear on the home page. I guess when you slash and slash your workforce, your uniform supply lasts long enough to become outdated. I can just hear the laughs at international law enforcement conventions ... "Hey, check out the funkadelic polyester cowboys from Ontario". No wonder these guys always seem grumpy. :(
