Hay Bay Larry and I headed to the Desronto bridge on Sunday around 1530. Headed straight out and dug some holes in 20 plus feet of water.

The ice was four to six inches, a lot thinner than Hay Bay and when talking to a chap he said it was almost 24 inches near Belleville, drving their trucks to their shacks.

We were the second twosome closest to the bridge, the VAST majority of fishers and huts were several hundred yards to the east of the Bridge.

Is That the MAIN Area of activity???? First time fishing that area.

Had a couple of small and hardly noticable bites, another chap between us and the bridge had a bite and it broke his line. We fished until 1700 and headed home.

Hay Bay Larry said first time he's gone fishing and came back with more bait that he started out with. Someone left a bag of minnows partially frozen on the ice, the minnows were still swimming but their space was being frozen quite quickly.

Maybe we'll get another kick at the can next Saturday- hard to say

We didn't see anyone land a fish as we were facing the west to escape the cold easterly winds.

There are a lot of shacks in front of Desronto and almost half around Forresters Is.

SuperDad,

If you were fishing straight out from the ramp at the bridge
in 20-24 ft of water you were in the location that has had
the majority of action over the past 4 weeks. Early in the
week before the -25 stuff, there were reports of good catches.

There was also a report indicating fish being caught directly
under the bridge. I have never seen someone fishing by the
bridge pilars. I would think the current would make this very
dangerous under normal winter conditions. The 6-8" in front
of the ramp area is the thickess ice I have seen in that area
in 10 years of fishing that location. Also, 5 years ago I was
catching fish at that location in 10-15 feet of water. The 20ft areas
would have been open water.

It's going to be warming up this weekend. The bridge location will
be busy. I'm sure you didn't have the typical 30 people around you.
Unless, the Deseronto fishing derby caused a crowd.

Sounds like the weather is going to be good, I'll be out.

As a couple of folks have already mentioned this weekend is the last full weekend of the season. The season doesn't officially close until feb 28th. So the guys who don't have to work through the week will have one more week after this friday. Good luck to everyone.

Deseronto has always been the best area to fish but it used to be a better secret than it is now.

This weekend will be warm enough to fish with good ice conditions.

See you guys out there.
