Quinte Fishing

I got to fish Lake Nipigon for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed fishing this famous large body of water located near Nipigon, Ontario.

Fish caught included a couple of brook trout with 19" being the best (not me). I did achieve a personal best northern pike with a 15+ pd beast caught and released. Two other pike around 8-9 pds. were caught and one bald eagle observed. On the drive down 2 moose and 2 blackbear were observed. It is now holiday time in the Napanee area for the next 12 days before heading back to work, and hopefully some salmon or halibut fishing.

If anyone is looking for some company (no wierd stuff), I welcome getting to fish Quinte while being home.

If I understand your post, you caught just a few fish on your trip. This concerns me as I am going to Nipigon this summer for the first time. It will be a 2 day drive for me one way and I am expecting that the fishing would be phenominal. You know, a fish on just about every cast type of thing. Your post does not reflect this. Was the fishing just average?

You are correct. Note, that a couple of serious storms including a thunder storm had went through during the past 24 hours. I was actually impressed, given that I could only fish about 6 hours. There were some nice brook trout observed.....they were just spooky.

The brook trout were near this island called Shakespeare, with it apparently being best at ice out (no surprise) and into late June. July sounds like lake trout time, with walleye being available in some areas of the lake as well as a substantial whitefish population, that is said to be of superb quality.

I would definetley go back and would actually like to fish the river at some point in the early season. The combination in at least one part would be staggering, with big rainbows from Superior in addition to walleye, lakers, and my beloved brookies.

It will be good there....I do a 20 day trip there every year and the fishing always good...Fish the big specks like bass....There are tons of pike , lakers and walleye to be had as well....Might even want to look up a charter for a few days....He will definately put you on fish...
