Quinte Fishing

I've got 4 guys leaving for a weeks fishing trip to Northern Ont. on July 7th (return following Sat). We need 2 more (no smoking in the cabin is only rule). We've gone here last 3-4 years and boat 50-100 walleye and pike a day. Cost is $30 a man per night for great log cabin with all facilities (generator, shower, toilet etc). You take your own vehicle, boat and motor (best is 14-16' with 10 to 40 hp), sleeping bag. I'll buy the grub, and we'll eat lots of fish, and split the grocery bill. It's an 8 hr. drive from Lindsay Ont (my place) and well worth the drive. Very resonable trip and pike are so voracious that often you'll net one while it's bitten into the 3 lb walleye you're trying to net. e-mail me at tmcbNOT@netscape.ca (remove the NOT from address)

What lake/river is it on?

Here's a note I sent to a fellow who e-mailed me. It's a lake just an hour from Cochrane. No lodge, but they're the only cabins on the lake. We have to boat in to the lake for about 20-30 minutes along a big river. At the mouth of the river it's very silted up with sand and only about a foot deep. We go out at full plane and get out fine. You could go out on elec. motor, but it's usually windy and might take a while (some fellows use much bigger boats, and do OK). The cabins are nice, with shower, toilet, fridge etc. He runs a generator from 7 am till 11 pm and we charge our batteries then. This seems to be the best time of the year for fishing, but it can be near freezing in the am. We've never been bothered by bugs, but it's wise to take a bug suit. There's a good fish cleaning station. Slot size on the fish (limit 4 walleye per person each day) and 6 pike), so that's all we take home. We have caught a hundred fish a day each boat. Fish are usually 16" to 24", with bigger pike of course). We did catch an 8 lb walleye though. These fish are slow growing compared to Quinte. We use bottom bouncers and spinners, or jigs. Lake is from 12 - 30 feet deep in areas we fish. We usually have no trouble getting 6 guys, but the owner was ill this year and wasn't going to open till last minute. We're OK with 4 guys but 6 is better for the cabin owner. There are good docks and maybe 8 cabins. We eat pretty simply, but well, I'll shop for groceries and we split the bill. Well, 2 of the guys can only stay for 5 days, so if any two fellows want to come for 4-7 days that's OK too. Once you take this trip, you will be spoiled for fishing elsewhere. We don't bother fishing too early in the morning, or late in the evening, because they hit all day long here. We're happy to get a bit of spare time to make up new spinner combos. Here's a photo of me with one of the lake's typical walleye's. There are also sauger and a few rare "blue pickerel".

any camping on the lake?
