I'll be in for another "no seeum" fly as I lost a king that would have went over 35 lb :D (prove me wrong) at the side of the boat the prick broke my line and stole my fly. Did you pay him off?!?!?

The bonnett has been really hot as well yesterday I was only out for 3 hours include set up and tear down and still managed three in the ice box and 3 more that are still swimming one that would go over 35 that still has my fly.

Chris, thanks for the great products, prices and tips. If anyone is headed this way PM me for some waypoints, depths, and colours.

Are there any particular colors and spoon types that are hot right now?

My brother and I will be picking the boat up from the shop Sat morning and heading out for some much over due salmon fishing (first trip of the season)

Thanks in advance, and good fishing.

Everyone is saying the rac spoon "Micheal Jackson" is really hot. I've caught a couple on the micheal jackson but for me I've done really well on a green spin doctor with a no seeum fly howie fly. I've also been using a short lead behind the canon ball like 5 - 7 feet with the spin doctor and fly and a longer lead with the spoons. Tuesday we were fishing down about 75' on the riggers so about 50-55' down, although I have been shallower for the most part this year. I think the thunder storms on the weekend kept them down. I have been in fairly close to the bonnett in about 100 - 125' FOW, although a few of the other guys have been out a little further.

Talk to Chris at the reel thing. He is a great source of information and knowledge. Both setups that I have done really well on this year were from his shop on his recommendation. He talks to all the guys coming in and passes the info on. I hightly recommend you stop in there and atleast talk to him.

West lake,

I've been to the "tackle box" 100's of times. We kept our trailer at willow ridge for 10 + years until they sold. The shop in Wellington has always been excellent for info and tackle. My problem now is we are in Wellers bay and coming from Ottawa, that puts Wellington a fair piece off the beaten path so to speak.

Thanks for the insight, it's greatly appreciated, hopefully I can get out for an afternoon/eve fish Sat and get a full day in on Sun. Our handle is Moose II and we will be running on 72. Good fishing and if your out around the bonnet give us a call.

Good fishing, CC Lad.

C.C. Lad,

I'll be off the bonnett all day on sunday weather permitting. My handle is "Long Wait" I'll be on 71 most of the day but I'll switch over to 72 and see if you've figured out something we haven't. Talk to you Sunday.

Hi Scott,

If you are using spin doctors with flies I recommend that you change the mono on the fly to braided line. This has been a common occurrence in the past couple of years that whenever a charter boat hooks a salmon that is 30+ lbs. it will break the line. The issue is that the line can not hold on to a 30+ lb. salmon without a risk of breaking. We have been telling our customers that buy the flies to change the line to a braided line and that seems to have solved the issue, and they are landing their huge salmon.

Hope this is of help to you and I'm hoping to be out at the Bonnet by mid week to try my luck.

Best regards,

Sam

Very interesting I've never heard that before. I'm not sure how big the one I lost was. It was a nice fish but I was being pretty facecitious by saying it was 35 lbs.

Does switching to the braided line affect the whip of the fly? I was told to use heavy line on the fly so that it is stiff and really whips the fly around does the braided line affect this?

Let me know what your handle is as I have a charters Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, and I will probably be out with my brother on Tuesday and Thursday. Geez I hate the long work week. . I'll post an update early in the week and I'm sure CC lad will as well. Thanks agian for the info. I will be running flies again tomorrow and won't have time to change to braid by then but I'll try one braid and one FC on Monday and see if I notice a difference in hits.

we were blown off as well at around 11:30 am I saw a couple fish caught be we didn't even manage a knock off. We headed west to the bonnett and I should have gone east off salmon point. Chris told me on my way through the harbour that I should head east....

West Lake,

Didn't get your e-mail until today, left for the trailer early Fri. Spent all day sat, dicking around with the boat shop, finally got her back - too late to head out. We managed to get out Sunday and had pretty good fish. We boxed 3, 2 a little over 20 and one in it's teen's. Picked up a laker as well. The 2 bigger salmon both had Lamprey's stuck to them. They fell off in the boat and met "the fish stick". We had two more fish on that got off one looked to be a solid 25 +, but those waves made the fishing Challenging to day the least. All of the action was right off the west tip of the bonnet, down 85 and 78 feet of chain/ over 117 - 120 feet of water, all the fish came off NK blue and silver Mags.

My brother is down for the week, so maybe you' see/ talk to him. Good luck fishing,
CC Lad (Moose II)

Great work. Your day was a lot better then ours I got out a little late somehow spooled the rigger had to retrieve the wieght by hand take the terminal end off and unspool it that wasted about 40 min #$@^#$@%. Then we ran the spin docs and RAC spoons I switch to a black and pearl blue fox that we have done well with but thats the only time I switched. Usually I can get one of the guys out with me to steer the boat but they were having a hard time staying straight which made playing with the riggers really hard. Anyway, I'm ashamed to say we didn't even manage a knock off. Thanks for the info I'll post how the rest of the week goes.

By the way I had one with a lamprey last week that came off in the boat as well mine had a date with a pair scissors poor fella.. if I could figure out how to insert pics I would put a few in. Maybe one of you guys can pm me the details. I think I saw a post a few weeks back about it too. I'll look there. Thanks.

West Lake,

I guess you had a hard time. That was some pretty rough water out there. Keeping the boat on track at a good speed was a challenge for sure. When we pulled at around 2:00, there were steady 7-8 footer's crashing with the odd set of waves even bigger!
Good luck fishing, I look forward to reading your reports.
