Planning to head out tomorrow. Just wondering what's hotter right now the Bonnet or Salmon Point. I'm familiar with fishing around the Bonnet, but have only fished Salmon Point a couple of times and that was several years ago.

I agree with fisherboy. Salmon point was much better today. We were off the bonnett and saw only one fish caught with atleast 10 - 14 boats out there. A couple guys off salmon point on the radio were reporting good marks and fish being caught.

New to site, great topic.... will be in the area next week. I have fished Quinte often & Bowmanville but never this area. Anyone know if launching from Sandbanks park is possible? Is this what they call the outlet creek. My boat is a 17ft , deep-v. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you can launch in the outlet river, but it depends on the time of year and water level whether or not you can get the boat out into lake ontario from the river.

My guess is you can't at this time of year but I can go take a look for you. I only live about 5 minutes from there so I'll go see sometime today and post a pic or two for you.

The best option is wellington to launch and park as it is essentially equidistant from the bonnett and salmon point. The outlet river would be real close to salmon point but a good haul from the bonnett if you wanted to head that way. Anyway, I'll let you know in a bit what the outlet river looks like.

Wish I had read the posts before. Went to the Bonnet yesterday and all was quiet. We had 2 releases and both came up dry. I heard of a few fish caught early to the west and NW of the Bonnet. We started around McFaul at about 7:30, and by the time we trolled around to the west side of the Bonnet, all had gone quiet. Didn't hear of too many fish caught the rest of the day around the Bonnet. My radio didn't seem to be picking up much of the conversation around Salmon Point, for some reason. We didn't really mark many fish or much bait either.

Hey Slammy,

My brother and I are thinking about heading down to Bowmanville. Are there any spots/ depths you would recommend? I haven't fished the area before.

As for the out let, I don't think you can launch your boat there. Wellington is probably best. &&& I would set up at Salmon point. it seems the Bonnet has slowed right down.

There are a couple places where you can launch, one a right of way to the beach but somebody would likely raise a stink and and you might have to drive a long ways into the lake , the other is up by Mac's farm but there are all kinds of rock to watch out for.

Different councilors have tried to get a decent ramp in the area but the park has blocked them, for some reason they don't want it .

CC Lad ,
Launch at Port Darlington & head west past the Plant. Another few weeks & they'll be coming in to stage.

Thanks Slammy,

If you could post up any results you have on hear that would be great. Like I said my brother and I are going to make the trip down in the near future, as soon as the bite slows down at the bonnet to Salmon point stretch.

Speaking of reports, what was up with the fishing this weekend? Salmon/West point, the bonnet??? Any info here??? I'm going through withdrawl! At least let me live vicariously through your reports :D

WE were out Sunday afternoon.

Started at Mcfauls circled in too around 80' and then ran out to140'and headed east, ran in to west point at sunset to see if we could find a smallmouth.

No fish anywhere, radio was quiet so I don't think much was happening anywhere.

Well thanks for the report Pollywog. looks like the action has come and gone.
Geeze, the bite seems to be starting and finishing a month earlier in our area now. 1st week of Aug used to be "prime time". - now start of June and their on....

Any word of action out off the sholals (south - west of the bonnet?)

Looks like it maybe time to head west.

Salmon Point seems to be hotter than the Bonnet, lots of bait fish on the south side, 120-140 feet of water. Early birds catching the fish, after 10 am seems to go quieter

Fished south of Proctor on Sunday. One knock off and one short hookup was all we had in 5 hours. Not much baitfish around and we did not mark much either.
