Thanks to the help & advice from Super Dad I will be taking my father-in-law who is 86 years old to BOQ September 23-30.We will be staying @ Merland Park. I know trolling with Dipsey's & Lead Core is likely our best option but he has Only Jigged & Rigged his whole life. We will try this as well but is there any sucess rigging & jigging @ the head of Picton Bay in Late September? My charts look like it s/b good & I want to keep him in his comfort zone as much as possible. Any advise on this or trolling depths {dipsey's/lead core} this time of year would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jeff

Jeffya2,
You are on the early side for prime late season walleye fishing in the quinte region. However you can employ the same tactics. You would most likely have better action past the ferry where you can run 2 lines /person.
Flat lining large minnow style baits 150' from the back of the boat can work well. If you can get the baits out to the side of the boat it's a better option. Your dipsy divers can help as well.
Large baits-Rapallas etc. all have there place at this time of year....Larry

Thanks Larry. I know We are too early for the biggun's but anything over 3 lbs will be a personal best for my father in law as he has only ever got very small eaters. We will be happy with 1 rod each as he will only be capable of reeling a fish in, everything else will be my responsibility. Can you give me recommendations as to leads on the Dipsey's. I have read that #1 with the o rings are the way to go. How far past the Ferry & on which side of the shore do you recomend, or is right in Picton bay better for us? Thanks

Jeff,

Try to locate fall transition fish along deep breaks through out Long Reach or at the mouths of Hay Bay, Mallory Bay, and Carnachan Bay. No need for dipsys in Picton Bay as the water is not very deep and most big cranks can get you down to the fish. If you need to run a little deeper you could run a 5 to 7 colour core while contour trolling. By the end of October you will see the fishing pick up as the bait and walleye arrive from Lake Ontario.

Good luck...

-sheldon
