Is the ice starting to recede yet?

How long will you expect the ice to last going on what the temperatures have been lately?

I think that the amount of water being added to the Bay will cause the ice to rise and when the major rise occurs, the ice will split and with a good wind, the ice will break up.

If the temperature holds, it could be a couple of weeks.

Read in the paper yesteday that the icve-breakers will be doing their thing in the Picton area soon, that will aid in the ice out.

On saturday i could see some water showing as I looked out on the bay from my house.
I was out for a drive along highway 33 towards the lennox generating station and noticed the first waves and white caps of the season. The water in front of the generating station and heading west to the ferry was open. With the continued use of the ferry it will break up more ice in the area.
The ice breakers are due in the area also. This weeks colder weather will slow down the process but in another 2-3 weeks we should see open water everywhere...Larry
