My first trip up to BOQ was one to remember.Didn`t get alot of time fishing due to engine problems.Broke down Saturday morn about 11am east of the ferry.lots of boats around at that time as we desperatly tried to row back to the launch across the bay against the strong wind .Every boater turning a blind eye to our attempt. We made three atempts but were no match aganst that wind. maybe some of you reading this saw us struggling???Ended up ashore dragging the boat to the glenora ferry dock.took the ferry across and meet a fellow angler from my neck of the woods on lake erie that without hesitation went across and towed our boat back to the launch.our ordeal ended about 7pm that night. To all those out fishing and saw us give your head a shake we are all in this together HELP YOUR FELLOW ANGLERS WHEN NEEDED.I personally have towed in 6 boats over the last 3 years only to ask in return that they return the favour to anyone else in need.

disapointed at BOQ shame on you !

That's very dissapointing to hear Swamp Donkey. That's definitely not a fun way to spend your day. In case any of the people that ignored you read this, it is illegal to ignore another vessel in distress. Just picture yourselves having to row for miles in calm weather not to mention AGAINST a Quinte fall wind. Hope your engine problems get sorted out Swamp Donkey.

Ken

I can't beleave that nobody came to your aid? Are you sure that anyone even seen you out there? I myself had engine trouble a few weeks ago out there. Thank god I had a kicker motor to get me back safe.

You really had your work cut out for you when you broke down if you were rowing that boat in the picture. But you are right, anglers in this neck of the woods are not as neighbourly as they ought to be. It does not surprise me that you were left to your own demise. Angling has become too self centered and selfish for my taste these days. In general, it is no longer a day to enjoy nature but rather a race against time and fellow man. Trains of thought like: "Have to get the bigger motor so I can get there faster than the next guy", "Have to have the latest and greatest (which usually means the most expensive) lure and tackle than the next guy", "Must be out on the coldest day possible to catch fish than the next guy", "Got to do whatever it takes to sell more tackle than the next guy". I've had people ridicule and taunt me when launching my boat in Picton because being solo it takes more time. Well you know what? We all end up in that padded box with our hands overlapping in the end. I say we all put things into perspective and help our fellow man (or woman) in distress. Beleive me it feels much better to go home without fish knowing that you helped a person in need that it does to have a stringer of fish. I would love the oportunity to fish Erie and perhaps one day live there. I have heard many great things about that part of Ontario.

That's a shame and it happens. If you do not have it yet and fished the Lakes, invest in a vhf radio, this way you can call for assistance. Someone out there will assist you, for sure. For those that saw you and ignored you, what goes around, comes around.

If you were signaling for help at the bow of your boat, then shame on the others, if you were simply trying to paddle and didn't signal for help then it's more a case of ignorance by the others.
Either way, at least one boat should have came over and asked if you need help.
