Nice to see someone got some fish!!!! I have been down the last 3 saturdays and have a 4.5 lbs pickeral to show for it. Marked a ton of fish along the south shore just east of the ferry but no takers. I've tried reef runners TD 9&11, crystal minnows and nothing, I've tried long leads behind the boards and short leads. The only thing i'm not sure about has been my speed, I've tried driving in an "S" to change the speed of the lures. Any help or tips would be great!!!!! My wife is starting to think that I'm not going fishing at all when I come home with no pictures. Talked to 3 boats at the launch and 2 got skunked and the other had a 2-3 lber.

What speed are you trolling at? I found most hits came at 1.8-1.9mph!

Funny I've been out 4 times now with nothing but a windburn to prove I was at least out side. LOL

I think its just a timing thing with walleye. Some days they are hungry and I've read of guys catching 20 in a day. Others (the days Im out there) they seem to be not feeding. Most days I can only get out for a few hours from sun up to noon. But this sunday I fished the day away. At least my lures are nice and clean

I run planner boards. I've ran both types offshore and church. Lures are tail dancers, reef runners, mann 20s, yo-zori, I have even set up to jig for em in the past. I have the PT guide and like to think that im running the lures at the correct depths. I hear your pain. It would be a real confidence booster to land a fish.

Ya I bought a copy yesterday of the PT guide just to be sure I'm at the right depth. My biggest thing is I have nothing to give me an accurate speed. Oh well back down in 2 weeks to give it another shot. I'm not quiting until I get a 10 lbs+ walleye.

what size boat and motor are you running? maybe with that info we can suggest what your slowest speed would be based on the motor.

1.5 mph is slooooow! Its often hard to even get a boat to run that slow in a 3ft chop into the wind. Im sure im not the best guy to give advise as I too have a 0-4 record for this fall. But I find that I can run my 115hp at slow forward into a 3ft chop and only be running 1.5 - 2mph. When I make a pass and run the boat back with the wind I have to use the 8hp kicker with just enough throttle to keep the boat on track.

I have a handheld gps that seems to be right on when it comes to boat speed.

I use one or two drift socks depending on wind and if I am going into it or with it. With the wind, usually both socks. Into the wind often none at all. Good luck!

Our success that day had to do with two things I found in particular, finding them was the 1st...... Greg's finder is a lowrance not sure what model but it's sick we found a good line of them and just as we started we got that 11, then we both agreed there was enough fish showing feeding activity that we should keep just passing over them, I swear we found a 400 foot patch that was so active, and most the fish were either close to bottom in 32-34 or up in 25 and they were the real active fish! The other was the speed! And Greg's setup helped out alot.... that one lure always produces fish at this time of year and I could have used another bait that I knew was hot right now so finding the fish was the main key! Just gotta have a bit of luck and timing like said above!

I have a 40 HP merc. and i was basically just putting it in gear and going with the wind, I find it easier with the boards to troll with the wind. The motor is on a 16ft legend.

I would say your going to fast. Maybe try using a pair of drift socks. One on each side of the boat on short leads. This will really slow your boat down. The last boat that I owned was a 14ft legend with a 25hp. I found that it trolled a little fast but I did catch fish with it.

The socks are a good investment just same. I own one that I use to slow my 18ft legend down when jig fishing.
