I picked up a ticket to the Kiwanis Tournament over the weekend. They list on the ticket stub about $160,000 in prizes ($80,000 of which is tagged fish -walleye/pike). Boat motor trailer for top prizes and there are also other prizes. The hat that you get free with the ticket is green with the "Bay Of Quinte" embroidered on the back.

Good luck to all fisherman :P

Just wondering....

When are the pike/walleye caught to put tags on them? Are they caught and tagged during the ice fishing season, or just prior to the derby?

Does anyone know where on the bay most of the tagged fish are/will be tagged and released?

YOU KNOW WHAT IDONT THINK THEY TAG FISH EVERY YEAR IF NO FISH ARE CAUGHT WITH TAGS THEY SAVE THEM FOR THE NEXT YEAR SO IF YOU CATCH ONE ITS LIKELY FROM YEARS AGO I THINK ANY WAY

If thats the case it doesn,t seem to fare to me what if the fish are cought in comercial nets speared etc. Who would know? From a legal standpoint they should be tagged and tags dated for each year of the derby otherwise who knows what happened to the oriinal tagged fish , for all we know it could be sitting in the belly of a big pike or musky!!!!

Of the hundred of thousands of Walleye in the bay 33 are tagged for this year. Not good odds.

There of course is a very good chance that no one catches these fish but that is the way it goes. These prizes are like a form of gambling. You just have to be lucky to catch a tagged fish.

Cheers,

Mike
