Well, this was the 2nd Fall Get Together for me and the boys, four of us, Jason, Jody, Jeff and myself Hodgey.

We fished Fri, Sat & Sun, with about a half day each. We trolled each day for about and hour or so, only managed one 8 lber. So we decided to abandon the trolling and turn to what I'm good at, JIGGING. We hit one of my prime spots that everyone says "Only produces small fish". Well the numbers speak for themselves...3 days, 2 boats, 4 guys, 250 Walleye jigging...most fish were in the 2lb to 3 lb class, however lot's of bigger fish, including the 12.6 lber that won the Fall Get Together at Merlands. Jeff Willis, the rooky of the group landed the PIGGY on a "HODGEY PARROT" (1oz home made jig head). Jeff topped his previous best of 5lb, now that's an improvement!! We hit most of our fish on 1oz jigs or a variety of jigging spoons tipped with Gulp Smelt or Chartreuse, ALL fish came from active pods marked on bottom. Most of the time we used a very large drift sock to slow down our presentation and keep us on bottom.

Great seeing all the guys and having an amazing time, Dan Elliot and the crew at Merland Park did a GREAT job.

Thanks, Hodgey

Hodgey you are the man, thanks for the information and the jig head/gulp combo package. My buddy Patio jigged that combination Sunday morning and picked up a 10.3lb fish out past the cement plant, thanks to you.
Much appreciated, I look forward to trying your technique on my next visit to the BOQ.

Hi Hodgy.
Do you generally jig with Bait cast reals and line counters. Also which one of the spots were you jigging as your pictures show several choices. Were the 35 foot flats paying off or the 100 feet in the channel, or was it casting off the dock, as I watched two kids catch 10 fish all of which were 10 plus while I was drinking beer outside my hotel room in Picton Harbour.
I am coming up next weekend and I would appreciate more info.
Thanks in advance Clark

Hey Clark,

That pic with the baitcaster was obvioulsy trolling, we did troll, however had more luck jigging. As far as locations to fish, there are too many to count....have a look at one of my previous jigging posts to get a better idea of where to fish.

Cheers, Hodgey

Hey Walleye or Hodgey,
WHat were the kids using for bait? We were there on Monday 26th and a gentleman was telling us about catching them in the harbour, and some guys caught a 16lber of the dock at the launch.
Any info would be great thanks.

Hi Hodgey.
I was just giving you a hard time. I think the last thread you were on the guys were giving you the gears. You did good. The number 250 sounds hard to believe for most. The math says each guy caught 22.5 fish per day and in real terms for the style of fishing that isn't huge or unbelievable. Sorry for being sarcastic. I usually fish in NW Ontario where 2 guys can fish and catch 300 fish a day. I fish one tournement in Red Lake where we have fished every year since the tournement started I believe was 93. This year we didn't get in for next year, 150 boats, two man/women teams. It was allready over sold by five, one year in advance. We are on a waiting list. I am not trying to sell this tourney as It already has too many trying to attend, rather just trying to seguay into the real point.
Quinte has, arguabely the best Trophy Walleye Fishery in the world. None Trophy fishing is up there as your post suggests. Red Lake is six hours from Winnipeg and Thunder Bay and is sponsered by Lund which is now pretty much anybody that builds a boat or outboard. Red Lake is great fishing that is why the turnout. Quinte in it's own right is too. Within six hours of Red Lake there are roughly 1,000,000 people, within six hours of Quinte there are close to 10,000,000 people. I should have pointed out that Lund is Genmar and own pretty much everything fishing. Quinte doesn't have one real Walleye Tournement and although there are plenty of Bass Tourney's, nothing impressive when it comes to money or talent.
Sorry to hyjack your thread. I just can't figure out why there isn't anybody jumping on Quinte for a major Tourney. Could it be that most pros wouldn't come because anybody can catch these monsters and pros don't like it when they get beat by a guy fishing out of a 15 ft skiff. Probably the guys selling the 20 footers wouldn't like it either.
Rant over.
Clark
