39 fish between 3 boats yesterday; biggest 2 were 14.5 and 13.4. My partner and I went 9 for 11 in 4 hours this morning, biggest was 11.15. Best method was a rigger set at 30 - 37 ft, followed by a purple Reef Runner from a board with 65 ft of line out and then a 3 ounce snap weight followed by 65 ft to the board. The Yo Zuri Crystal Minnow in purple was hot on the rigger, set back only 15 to 25 ft. Speed was very slow, 1.0 to 1.4 mph and the best location was south shore east of the ferry dock. Sick that we had to come home for work, it was great up there. Having said that, lots of people were skunked yesteray for whatever reason. Today they were catching them in Picton Bay and in front of the Cement Plant. Four casualties this weekend were two digital cameras that succumbed to the cold (I guess) and both my bilge pumps. It was worth it!! Good luck to all!

The harbour was 38.1 on Saturday morning with a skim of ice, on Sunday when we left it was just over 40. The larger body of water was 40 to 42 when I looked.

Do you figure you were fishing about 50' deep with the rigs you were using? We are going up tomorrow for a week.

Dave, we could see our lures on the sonar, they were never much below 39 ft. Lots of fish came up from the bottom to check them out and a couple of times we saw the fish that hit the lures. What we did was fish above the marks on the sonar, sometimes the fish were in the top 20 ft and we used lures that were down 8 to 15 ft from the boards and at other times we went deeper. I think that versatility is the key and spread out the depths until the fish tell you what they want. It was weird that some other people we spoke to on Saturday night had been doing essentially the same as us all day in the same area and were skunked. I guess that is fishing. Anyway, good luck up there it is a magical place and I am seriously jealous that you will be there for a whole week!

We managed to get a 9lber and a 5, 3 all other fish were 1lb. the biggest was taken jiggin a gulp alive 3" minnow, and the 5 was taken on the boards with white/pink pearl yo-zuri.
This was our fisrt time out of Picton, I think we'll be back.
Here's a couple of pics.

Nice pix! I see you got a new float suit ..... "outgrow" the old one? Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha! [As a matter of fact, my own suit is feeling a bit tight these days, sheesh]

Hope to get out with my dad one day this week.

Cheers, eh?
Pete

New as in 5 years old perhaps. The other one was too short in the arms and legs and the hood sucked......it was a one year unisex version apparently that they discontinued because it didn't fit tall guys. Good luck with the trip this week!

Pete...I hate to be the bearer or bad news but thursday is going to be one hell of a day.
According to Accuweather for Picton:
"Winds gusting past 80 kph; partly sunny and cold with snow flurries. Winds from the WSW at 49 km/h."

Yeah, I see that.

I think we might have to go super early, and hug the SW shore. Looks like we'll get blown off by the afternoon.

BUT with the cold front arriving, it could be really good!
