Hey guys,

I hope we don't get an early end to the open-water season! Our boat is still at Quinte and my dad and I hope to get there again this week, perhaps Thursday as this looks like the nicest day.

If anyone has firsthand knowledge of the status of any of the ramps, let's keep it all together and post it here, eh?

Ramps include, but are not limited to:

- Picton Harbour
- Merland's Resort
- MacFarland's Conservation Area
- Glenora Marina
- Prinyer's Cove
- East side of Glenora Ferry
- Adolphustown Park
- Probably other places I have missed

Ice conditions change on a daily - or especially nightly - basis, so please post up what you know.

Cheers,
Pete [and Ron]

What I do is bring my old car,,, back it up 50 yards ,, you gun it at the ramp and into the bay. This has proven to clear the ice so the boats can proceed on to the fish... if I can come up with warmer clothes.... I'm in.

Careful if you try this as my wifes car is in there from last year and you may smash into it.

Im getting reports that Skyway Bridge has a solid ice across so Im assuming it would be worthless to launch in Deseronto! It's NICE TO CATCH MONSTERS but use SAFETY FIRST PEOPLE!

Are you saying the launch in Deseronto is frozen, or that the ice is across the bridge, so you can't access the fish in the narrows?

I would love to get one more duck hunt in on the bay this weekend. Any info on an open launch would be awesome!! I don't need to get to fishing spots, just get the boat in the water, I'll deal with the rest.

Thanks,
Sinker

Huge thanks, Sam!

I wonder how those two boats launched? The east side of the ferry? Is there a launch ramp out near Bath somewhere?

I saw the warmer weather coming, so my dad and I will try to get out next week during the week. I usually reserve the weekends for the girliefriend.

Everyone else, please post up. Tell us what you see!

Cheers,
Pete

Bath is wide open.

The ferry launch was open as of this past Sunday....lets hope it still is!

(i'm liking the warming trend ahead)

I take the ferry everyday and there are a few boats everyday there launching. The ferry is loaded with boats morning and night. Looks like some work to clear ice and snow but I guess it is worth it.

The Weather Network, AccuWeather and Environment Canada as of Saturday are forecasting barely-above-freezing highs all week, so we may get a reprieve. The cold nights could still bugger things up. Our boat is still stored in Picton, so my dad and I are definitely going to come up sometime this week.

You can click here to see recent satellite images of the Great Lakes area. You can select Lake Ontario and zoom in. The Synoptic overview is pretty handy for figuring out ice-out in the spring, if you are a canoe-in trout fisherman like me.

Now that's what we need - a daily firsthand look! Greydog, do you mean that there is snow and ice around the ramp interfering with launching, or what?

Nice though the views from space are, I would love to hear first hand from people who got their boats in today - how and where? East Ferry? Adolphustown?

Could someone please provide directions to the Bath launch ramp from the Ferry? I have never been there? Do you have to pay to use it, or is it free?

Cheers,
Pete

Passthepitonspete, the Bath launch is easy to get to from the ferry. Just keep heading east on Hwy.33 and just after the cement plant its on your right. Its right at the end of Finkles Shore park and its free. Not sure if you can use the docks as the water might be too low but you could still probably launch there.

Pete,

I checked out that link you posted. Pretty cool. I remember you sending that to me last year but I had forgot all about it.
Cloud cover really messes things up but with all the pictures there should be at least one you can zoom in on.
What gets me is the smaller lakes up north of Kingston still look open (dark blue). 8O I have been watching the temp around our cottage area and it's been well below what we've had here. The area has had more snow than the Belleville area as well. I'm itching to get up ice fishing for some splake. Hopefully next weekend.

what I meant was that the ramp had snow and ice but the water seemed to just have floating ice there but by the end of the day it was clear
