We are still making ice and some of the open water we had a couple of days ago now have a small amount of ice froze over it. It's still dangerous out there for all. I still maintain that we need some more time for good safe ice. We did not get the warm weather to the extent the weatherman was calling for so we did not loose any that we had. With the cold nights and days we have had and with the cold weather forecast for the long range I don’t think we have to wait much longer. There is a lot of white ice out there but it is making good solid ice under it. With this type of condition it takes longer than normal to build good solid ice. It is getting better but don’t get to brave yet. Sorry to be a bad news carrier but Mother Nature is the boss and we all know how nature can kick butt when it wants. Our best way to fight back is called patience.
With pure 100% SPECULATION we all may be able to get er done by next weekend. I'll let you all know for sure by no later than next week Thursday for sure.
Remember have fun, be safe and bring back everything you took with you...............Ron

Well I did some Scouting today! Myer's pier ICE I was right in where the boats stay and gotta think that's where the least amount of current is and I chopped through that with my pick in less then 4 pounds!! Maybe tops 2 inches wait another couple weeks boys and girls it's a warm week this week as well! If anyone wants to catch lotsa perch that area is stacked with small to 10 inchers! I was jigging right off the dock into a hole!

If you want someone to take you out when it gets safe send me a PM, Ive fished the bay my whole life and no the currents inside and out in Belleville and I dont charge a dime just rather see people catch fish and be safe! Martycoo,

I'll probably take you up on your offer. :)
It's been about 10 years since I last ice fished the bay even though I've lived in the area my whole life. I did a lot back in high school but gradually stopped. Most of my ice fishing is done back north. I think it's time to get back into the swing of things!

Hopefully heading north this coming weekend for splake.

Ya I drove over the Trenton bridge and seen 4 guys out there today. I stopped on the #2 highway in Bayside and seen 2 guys around the island, light house area. I've been out there when u have 8"near shore and get to the light house and u have 3"(those guys are nuts!!!). Also I counted 4 guys in the middle @ Potters creek! I wasn't on the ice myself, but if it stays cold this week I'm heading out.
