I'm just looking for some input for a couple things.

1. I have many plastic/rubber baits like grubs, worms, minnows etc... I usually keep them in their original packaging and then place that in a zip up binder bag. The problem with this is that the bag gets full and is very bulky. My question is, do a lot of people keep their plastics in air tight plastic sleeves (like ones you would keep your hard baits in)? If so, do you find that the quality of the bait stays the same or do they dry out at all?

I want to find a better way to organize my plastics.


2. If flourocarbon line is pretty much invisible under water and many companies have quality flouro out there why wouldn't you use flouro line? I understand that there are situations where you would want to use other types of line but for the most part when fishing the smaller inland lakes why wouldn't people use flouro. Is it because of the price or because they just like what they are comfortable with? I'm just curious as to what people think b/c I spooled up with flouro last summer and found my catch rates did actually increase.

Berkley makes a binder that you can keep the soft baits in. Is this what you are using? I think this is the best way to keep them. Its bulky but only when you have lots of plastics and any way you store them will be bulky. Thats the problem with lots of kinds of plastics but you can never have to many options. That is my story and I'm sticking to it. No one tell my wife otherwise...I think she almost believes me.

As for spooling with Fluoro here is what I find. I like the qualities of braid best: good line strength with small diameter, no stretch, and no memory. Personally, I hate memory in line and beacuse it has no stretch it is very sensitive. The stretch in both mono and fluoro also make it impossible to pop a dipsy. The problem is the visibility and with walleye fluoro will make a difference. So what I do is add at 10 to 15' of fluro as a leader usinig an albright knot ( I like the seagar's leader maker fluoro as it is very abrasive resitant - good for teeth). Do you know if there is a big difference between Seagar's leader flouro and main line flouro. Shouldn't they be exactly the same?

as far as i understand, and have experienced, no flouro leader line and mainline are not the same.

i'll let someone more knowledgable explain the difference though.....

I don't think I would fall under the category of more knowledgable but I think the biggest difference is the abrasion. The leader maker fluoro is a lot more abrasive resistant then main line fluoro it has a coating I think. Its also stiffer which makes it harder to tie knots with. But because it is stiff when used for salmon fishing, it really whips the flies and spoons around and you get a lot more hits.

For walleye I use it just because of the abrasion resistance. I use normal fluoro as a leader behind leadcore only so I can use a smaller lb line then the lead core. This is becasue I'm cheap and if I get hung up or break a fish off I want the 15lb leader to break instead of my 18lb leadcore that costs alot more then the line

florocarbon leader is slightly more rigid and not subject to curling, the florocarbon line is limp.

florocarbon line will sink.

Leader material is just that LEADER material and the florocarbon line is fishing line.

Only other thing I could post about the differences is the pure flouro leader is more abrasion resistant and much stiffer. Alot of anglers use the main line flouro, we tend to use a braided main line with a flouro leader in most cases. Main line flouro is great for drop shotting though.

Hey Jfish,
For a neat simple way to store plastics and jigs try this. Put them into Zip Lok plastic bags (I like the 3 x 4 inch size) . Then put the Zip lok bags onto shower curtain hooks. That way you can page through them and just select the one you want. One hook holds about 20 bags.
