Hi everyone. I am a biologist at Queen's and we need to get some perch for a student's research project. Can you tell me where we can find good numbers of perch through these ice these days? We know how to catch them but would appreciate some local advice on where to find good numbers. We'd like to get about 30 in a day if possible. Thanks! Bruce Tufts (Queen's Biology Department)

Bruce:

Go and buy a shrimp ring at the grocery for $3.00 and go to Hay Bay and drill some holes not to far off shore ( Say 100 yds south-east of the Shermans ramp and in a nice weed bed.

Take half a shrimp an fish, get yourself a number of perch, go back to lab - get some cocktail sauce and eat the rest of the shrimp.

I have a friend who when he wants a feed of perch, that's what he does and he NEVER goes home empty handed.

Not trying to be funny - just a way to get some perch.

I've never tried it myself....I'm alergic to sea-food and can break out if I touch it

That's a great suggestion SuperDad.....my sister will not touch a worm so she uses only shrimp and does really well in the summer for bass and pan fish.

If you do try this and get a chance, please post your results. It would be interesting to see how well it works thru the ice.

Cheers
