First, my compliments to the new board. I enjoyed reading this board over the years.
Now, my question is "was their tourney a farce or what?" I'm sorry but I have been at the cottage with the in-laws for the last 14 years on Hay bay and have fished this tourney for a good nine years only to find out that after arriving at Pickeral park for the leader board it was for the Trenton Tourney. And instead of the posted 40 hp and 16 ft boat for first prize it was a 14 ft and 9.9hp(as posted on their site). No live release, a change two weeks before the opening back and forth from the long weekend to the first and back again. Trenton now has triple the weigh in stations in the same area, quad the prize money and quad the prize positions. Am I just cynical or was this a piece of crap? I really would like to get the money on the tickets we spent due to false posting of awards, changes of the weigh in stsation we didn't even know about and a lack of unattainable info to these changes. Sorry for the venting but am I (and the other guys we fished with) alone on this?

I guess you weren't the only one to go to Pickeral PArk for the Walleye 2002 weigh station.

It was changed this year, the winner did the same thing.

Cottager, if you would have read the back of your Walleye 2002 ticket you would have went to the proper weigh-in site. The weigh in stations were posted on the tickets,in the papers, and on signs. You are getting confused about the weekend it was supposed to happen as the derby on the long weekend has nothing to do with the live release one that just took place. When the NDRGC cancelled the live release tourney(because of the MNR crap going on) they wanted to still put something on for families to enjoy, thus the Fishing Festival later in May! By the way, your Walleye 2002 ticket enters you into the Fishing Festival.
They had to downsize the prizes because of the late start with the organizing and some of their sponsors had either backed out or committed to other tourneys. I think they also realized that the ticket sales would be very low this year, so they had to purchase prizes they could afford without losing their shirts! If you can't afford the $10(wanting your money back), then you better give up fishing!
If you want to vent some more then the web site to go to is ndrgc@ihorizons.net which is also printed on the ticket!
One thing I will agree with is that the Napanee tourney is fading(ticket sales are getting lower every year) and the trenton tourney is picking up the pace!

Yep I guess I assumed that nothing changes including a place I weighed in for last few years. Gee $10 is a lot but for $20 you can get access to over $140,000 vs $10,000. Now just because I work in the Nuclear Medicine field doesn't make me out to be a scholar, I figure the free hat would cover the $10. easily that Trenton provided. Call me cheap but I read what's on their web site and figure it to be the truth. I agree that times might have hit hard and usually they have ~3500 - 5000 tickets sold, but all the info you had access to probably came from local papers. I, like the others I taked to from the States mentioned their frustration and disappointment in the change of events. It's sad that the monies collected from the Trenton tourney will now go to that community vs The Napanee club doing events for the locals of the area. I hope that Napanee can try to work with the Trenton club to leave some of that cash flow locally. I heard about Pickeral Park being lost at losing revenue too. Well we'll see next year.

I heard that the Trenton Tournie hadn't sold 1000 tickets, that's rumor I heard over Hay Bay way.

If that's true then they may have taken a bath with the prizes and the operating costs.

The rumor heard on Hay Bay was heavily squashed, as the report in the Belleville newspaper indcuated that the Kiwanis haad sold nearly 3500 tickets for their Walleye Release Tournament.

Sorry to have spread ugly rumors.

Cottager, the info on changes were advertised more locally. You are right, people from out of the area should have been informed, I don't think it would have been hard to do by the NDRGC taking into account that most of the tickets sold are probably to fisherman(women) out of the area or even country in your case. I know alot of locals that won't fish the tourney because it is too busy for them, they wait until the Monday when things have quieted down to go fishing. Well, hopefully with the certainty of the fishery now next years tourney will be better advertised and people better informed! Hopefully you will return next year and continue your annual event, might even be a good idea to purchase tickets for both tourneys, I think I might.

Your right Fighting Fish about the deal on buying tickets for both. I had noticed the last couple of years that one tourney has had bigger fish than the other, so it gives you an option (depending on the size of your fish) where you sould enter. Sometimes depending on the temp and time of spawning, some years the "eyes" have migrated down toward the bay near Picton and can be fished shallow or deep. Other years like this year, they tended to hold up farther up the lake near Trenton - Bellville. I see with this late season a good few weeks coming up for the walleye as soon as the water reaches higher temps in the 50's.
