Hi All,

Haven't been down myself to the Bay this summer but with all the great fishing going on maybe the slot limit regulation is working. I have personally seen slot limit work well on Balsam Lake in terms of increasing number of fish caught. Of course most were in the slot but it still was a good sign. Any thoughts?

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well. I myself am doing a lot of bass fishing up in the Ottawa area and doing pretty good. If it weren't for the Ottawa river I say I am have a great season.

Good fishing.

Mike

Hi Mike, I spoke to an employee of the MNR this spring on the phone and he stated that this should be a good year for fishing on the bay as a result of a very good spawn three years ago. The slot limit was put inplace last year and a good majority of the fish being caught are under the slot size (3 year old fish).
I would suspect the information/prediction from the Ministry to be accurate going by the success everyone seems to be having. I hope the slot size will gaurentee good fishing for the future.

Let's hope that while lot's of fish are being caught, only a select few are actually being taken. It's been a while since the bay has been this hot and hopefully it will stay this way for years to come. :!:
Tim.

I wonder if that suports my theary that you need lots of snow for a good spawning year, I checked but my plowing book dosn't go that far back.

I figure the C+R guys will wipe them out in august anyway.

The slot has nothing to do with the recent success. The MNR knew those fish were coming up before they set the slot. Almost makes me think they planned it this way to make themselves look good.

Dan is partially correct. I am too busy to elaborate. I will be drafting what should be an interesting piece and will post in a few months. Please make sure this is forwarded to Jerry O, Paul and of course Peter W.

The slot must be supported. Do not let the conservation guard down, regardless of who you are listening to. This and other iniatives will result in more long term BOQ stability. Things are changing globally and there are still some select items that can help. This is a small but positive step that needs support. There are others on the backburner.
