so you are sayin you cant fish in a lake or body of water for a fish that is in season just because there is walleye in the same lake or body of water? i think that is a lil off

no i get what you are sayin. they do have the power im not denying that. im just saying it doesnt make sence to me. so that means all the guys that fish lake trout and brown trout this time of year in lake onatario are breaking the rules because walleye is closed same with guys fishin rainbows in thes rivers once they open. not saying that its not against the law i dont have the regs in front of me right now it just doesnt make sence to me.

Guys,

Crappie are absolutely classified as a game fish. In Zone 20 where the Bay of Quinte waters lie, you can fish for them all year round with a possession limit of 30. There are exceptions that restrict all fishing in some locations, usually designated as fish sanctuaries for specific time periods.

On the other hand, if you were fishing Zone 17 which covers the Trent System of Lakes, you cannot fish at all between Nov 15th and the 4th Saturday of April of the next year. That means no fishing at all. (not even rock bass) The possession limit when Crappie opens on the 4th Saturday of April, is no limit.

I wonder if the conservation officer met at the sportsman's show was from Zone 20.

Bottom line, if you want to fish for Crappie in Quinte Waters, knock yourself out. You'd better be fishing with Crappie sized baits though, or you could be scheduled a court date. Leave the bass and walleye tackle at home until the season opens.

I thought we were talking about the Bay of Quinte here, but you are right about the exception in Area 17. The conservation officer should read his own regulations.

Taken from Zone 17 exceptions:

Trent River - waters from the first
dam (Number One) above Lake
Ontario upstream to Lock No. 9
(Myers Lock) at the head of Percy
Reach.

Black crappie - open all year.

Again, check all the exceptions.

My book says " Trent River waters in SIDNEY TWP.upstream from the first dam (Number One) above Lake Ontario Crappie open all year.

Finally got out with GOT2FSH in his boat for some trent river
crappie yesterday :lol:

it sure was nice not to drill holes
and to cast instead. we found water temps from 46 up to 56
and caught lots of little ones but no real keepers was good
just being out though
