I am looking for input / recomondation regarding a guide on the BoQ. I live in Ottawa and do not own a boat. there is a group of 3 guys that is looking to get out for some fall action, but we need to go througha guide or rent a boat. By the time we figure out where to go and how their hitting the day will be over. There is not a lot of $$$ to go around but if their is a good guide that is recommended the we might take the plunge and go for it. Thanks for any help on this request.

Brian

Thanks for the reply haybay larry, I have looked at the guide section of the board, I was just trying to narrow down the options. Everyone can open a guiding service but not all can put you onto the big fish on a half or full day charter.

Try me Tom Gustar. I am a PWT Pro angler and have 15 years experience on the bay. I get the job done or you don't pay full price.

Brian, judging by the postings from last fall Targa2 would be an excellent bet for getting you guys on to some fish.

i am confident that tom gustar would meet your needs quite well, if anyone can get you on some big fish he can, and i think his rates are very reasonable, especially for the experience you will have. i think they are all pretty knowledgeable about the fishery though so you probably can't go wrong , hope you do well.

Brian,

I have fished with Tom Gustar on the BOQ in the fall and have nothing but good things to say. He has a natural talent for finding and catching large numbers of big walleye. In addition, his boat will easily accomodate a group of three and himself. I will be calling Tom again this fall.

If you are looking for a guide or charter be sure to ask if he or she meets Transport Canada guide lines and has all the proper safety equipment to meet there requirements. When you find an qualified charter I hope you have an good trip.

I have no doubt about Tom's ability to put you on fish... just to provide you another choice here try contact Jim Johnston at (613 393-3767). Coupla years back four of us fished out of his boat, a 20' Lund backed with a 100 horse tiller Honda, 12 lunkers were boated on that day and we paid $300 ...he has smaller setups for fewer people. Tom and Jim are the only charters that I've seen demonstrating lunker fishing in BOQ in different TV fishing shows in last two years.

I have no problem recommending anyone to the charters listed on this site. They all have the equipment, local knowledge and time on the water. As for someone mentioning lunker ability, I have to add David Chatterton to the list. He is one of the very few if not the only guy who earns his livelihood on the BOQ waters. The others have come and go but Dave knows his stuff and has survived. I've seen Daves group catching lunkers like the rest.
