I was fishing this past weekend in the Quinte area and landed a 14"+ black crappie. I didn't have my scale with me for weight. Is this length common for a Crappie?
thanks, John

that is huge id say...i have caught a few crappie at miers in the past week or so and the biggest ive pulled up was about 10-11 inches...so it very probable that your crappie isnt alone...here is a link to the mnr...i can only see that it says 7-10 inches as an average i guess....did you keep it? you prolly picked up a record fish..what gear were you using to attract that one anyhow?

Maxwell, from what I'm told by the "locals" that others have landed 14" black crappies on that body and area of water, and that the crappies travel in schools of about the same size. I always catch and release fish so I let this guy go. Next time I'll be sure to bring a camera and scale. I was using a jig with a black plastic leach bouncing-drifting on bottom. Both my 5 year old son and 23 month old daughter were in the boat. My son reeled all the fish in and my daughter helped me net them. Fishing with them is awsome. The look on thier faces is worth everthing.
