Quinte Fishing

Yes, leadcore. However many of those "almost"bottom fish are far from neutral in the fall. If they are 5 feet off bottom in 35 feet of water they are not at all neutral in the fall. I have tried Husky Jerks on leadcore for those bottom huggers that you cannot see on your graph with great success. Smithwicks are a good bait for neutral fish as well.

Just got done practicing leadcore deep diver combos,something very few people seem willing to try,have 5 rods set for various segmented lengths,looking forward to Bay fishing in 3 weeks,thanks for the input. I'm curious as to no real mention of shad baits,except for Taildancers, on this board,thought CC shad were excellent the last visit I made.Hope to see you on the water.

Good question about the shad lures, I was also wondering about jointed minnow baits?

Targa I don't know if you noticed that Rapala has changed all of of its hooks to VMC Black Nickle Pyramid Point hooks. I admit the old hooks were not that good but the new ones kick butt.

Caught many walleyes on Tail Dancers and Jerks without a single mishap.

Funny you should mention it cause I saw some the other day and said " well, I geuss they showed me didn't they".

I have yet to see those lures in the stores around Hamilton yet. I really liked the power minnow and pm deepdiver as well, in the same colour shown. Gonna have to keep my eye open for those HotLips, can never have enough lures.

Getting back to leadcore line...are you tying direct to your baits or running a mono leader? I brought leadcore up last year and you should have heard the ribbing I took because of it.

I have not had the chance to get out on Quinte this year, although I have been doing a lot of fishing up north for walleye, have done very well using bottom bouncers trolled very slow with a simple inflated worm on a walleye rig (18 inch line with a single hook and spinner blade, a few beads etc.). Interesting to read the various opinions on lures, the hot lips lure mentioned is one I have never had any success with, at Quinte I have done well in the past with the Smithwich Rattlin Rogue (silver), Rapala Deep Diver?, and I even have had success with an Erie Dearie with a worm on it. Th eRapala's I think have goen doen hill regarding quality, the hooks and split rings are terrible and I have broken several, the worst experience was a tail dancer I bought whren the first came out, I caught a walleye ont he seconf or third cast and lure literally fell apart in my hands after bringing the fish in, never seen anything like this happen before. Probably the best rig I have used in the past few years for walleye is an inline weight, maybe 1oz (torpedo shaped with a chain like a bath tub chain on it on one end) that I have not been able to find since I bought this one, I hook it on to a snap swivel and then put about 5-6 feet of line out behind it and troll slowly with a variety of the typical walleye baits, again slow is th ekey, this seems to work well and does not get hung up too much once you get a feel for the depth it is running. One final comment is that I believe that each person fishes the same bait in a slightly different way and each has different success, all of us have seen a guy at one end of a boat catching fish while the other guy using the same bait is not. What I have learned from thsi and others comments is keeping changing it up and do not get stuck on one technique.
