Quinte Fishing

Went off to fish with Laker (John) and when we crossed the Adolphustown Ferry, we KNEW there was a wind. We've never seen the fery rock n roll coming into the terminal on the east shore.

BIG WAVES.........

The plan to fish the cement plant was squashed as we crossed over to Glenora.

Launched at Picton Ramp - Suggested contribution for using the ramp is $4.00 - Not a problem BUT they had better get the lights working at night as it's PAIN getting out in the dark.

We headed to Picton Bay and the waves were running 3 - 4 feet, we stuck close to the east (Merland Park) side and trolled and bounced for three hours, no hits or losses.

Lunch at the Ramp and back out at 1445 to see if it was worth while staying or packing it in. The waves had decreased in size and were only 2 footers. Headed out and fished past Merland Park and we had a hit at 1540. Superdad landed a nice fish, couldn;t get the digital scale to work(under pressure) and used the old one - tipped at 13.5 lbs. We started to troll again and within 15 mins - another hit, Jointed Spoonbill - firetiger.





TRolled again 5 mins and Laker hits one- Husky Jerk - Firetiger.




Let the lines again and BANG - another one.





A short while later, I get another hit and land a 9 lb pike.

We had all the fish within an hour and 20 minutes. What a great day.

Laker had another hit on his Husky Jerk and he COULDN'T move the fish, all he felt were head shakes and then - The Big one got away.

Only one other boat fishing Picton Bay and a couple of charters out on the BIg Water BOuncing around no doubt.

We had a great day - Looking forward to next week

Superdad, those are awesome fish. Looks like you've answered the most important question of the fall, are the big fish in yet. That thirteen+ is a true trophy, anytime anywhere. Guess it's time for the next trip down to try Dr. Death. I assume you were flatlining, no boards?

I am not to familliar with Picton Bay. Would that be on the opposite side of the cement plant? Cement plant and Picton Bay faces each other?

Hey Superdad, nice fish!! It's nice to see that they're coming in to the Bay. It should make the fall get together that much more exciting. I was curious how deep you were trolling. Were you using deep diving rapalas, snap weights and planer boards? That's an odd time for the bite to be on, I'm sure you were glad the waves died down and you went back out. That seems to be the way they feed, all at once and then nothing. The trick is being in the right spot at the right time and it probally dosen't matter what lure/colour/line etc etc you use, when they're hungry they're hungry. I may have to get out before the 21st and have some fun. Let us know on the depth. Thanks! Patio

Picton Bay is the big open water north of Picton. If you launch at Picton you are travelling right through Picton Bay. The cement plant would be on your left as you leave the bay.



You can see Picton on the map (bottom left of red shaed area).
