Two of us decided to jig for the weekend. Two and 1/2 days and we landed 93 walleyes, ranging from small to 11:00 pounds. 4 over 10, lots over 6, one helluva good time! Lost 4 large fish this morning that would have helped our average; love this waterway!

I have never jigged in the fall only trolled. I have seen lots of boats around Thompsons jigging. May I ask a stupid question - what are you jigging with?

Hi Dan, thought we might have seen you out there. It was a good time to be sure, we caught a lot of fish. Great to see some assorted year classes too, bodes well for the future. We stayed at Perfect Vue, had a nice cottage and did our own cooking. Only problems were launching and docking. Tried to launch the Ranger at the Sherman's launch but the back wheels of the trailer were at the end of the pad before the boat was in the water. Drove to Deseronto and the same problem; finally managed to launch by going in on an angle where there was no drop off at the end of the pad. A nine mile ride back to the resort and all sorts of problems docking there in 1.5 feet of water. It is crazy how much they have lowered the water level. Picton is probably the only good launch now but finding accommodation there is tough, the Harbour Inn is always booked solid. I would like to get back up there, if I can work things out. You locals are lucky, if I lived up there I would never be at work!

Hope to see you soon, Neil.

neil, from perfect vue (where i say in december) why not launch at the ferry?

that is where we launch until it freezes. then we are off down the reach.

Steve, that would have been our next option. I have never launched at the ferry, is the ramp steep enough and long enough for a 20 ft fiberglass boat now that the water is so low? How far of a drive is it to go around Hay Bay to get there? Perfect Vue is a good place to stay, a little pricey perhaps but you make it up by doing your own cooking and not drinking pub beer. Also, a cottage is much nicer than a hotel room, as you know because you stay there every year. Cheers, Neil.

My wife and I stayed here last weekend, I believe that they keep 5 cottages open for the month of November.

They are about 10 mins. from the Harbour. Cleanest cottages that we have ever stayed in and there was lots of parking for the boats.

neil, the ramp actually might be "too steep".

really a full sized 4x4 is required...its deep enough for the boat, but the ramp is short and steep. (similar to bath)

Steve, thanks for the info. I have a 5.7 litre V8 Toyota Tundra 4 X 4 so getting it out won't be a problem.

ya, your good then.

i use the 5.3 Yukon SLT ... no problem either....

but i've watched lots and lots of pickup trucks sliding in reverse right back down the ramp.
