Quinte Fishing

Had a chance to get out with BayBoy and Laker John for another shot at the jig bite. Launched at Shermans and we had the lures in the water at 0945 and the first fish at 0947. It seemed as though they were still biting although not as strenuous as Monday past.

BayBoy had some lures that he wanted to try out and was very succesful with his Lil Foxies and Rapala jigging lures.

The rain held off until 1300 and when it came the bite just stopped, I was talking to Grant from G2 and they encountered the same thing, the bite shut down. They were also having trouble find some larger fish.

After an hour and a half of nothing,cept a pike bite that chomped the lure off my line, we began anew in 50' of water and I hooked a fish on my second jig, looks like the bite was back on after Bayboy and Laker John both reeled in fish. These bites were during a teeming downpour and by the way those really neat survial suits aren't waterproof!!!!!!!!!

We called it a day at 1615 and headed to the ramp. The total catch for the day was slightly less than our total on last Monday. All in all a very succesful day on Quinte.

We calculated that we have caught more walleyes in the last two day of jigging than we did all spring, summer and early fall. Lots of year classes, fishing should be good for some years.

Ref the survival suit not being water proof. I've been thinking of spraying my suit with Jigaloo to see if it would work. It is a dry silicone and they advertise that you can use it on boat tops etc as a water repellent. I know it doesn't have an odor and is slippery as hell so watch any overspray.
Might be something to consider. Maybe try it in phases...start on the shoulders or arms of the suite and see how it works.

David, sounds like you had fun. Glad you are enjoying the jig bite and catching lots. I am trying to get back up there next week but it is not definite yet. You guys from the area are so lucky that you can just go for a day or a few hours, it is a major trip for many of us. I will PM you if I will be up there.

Survival suits and rain. Nice combination. Particularly when you wear black track pants underneath so you're comfy and everything can move around all free-like.

Then you sit in your seat for a couple hours, just watchin' the day go by, catch a couple fish and once in a while.........stand up.

Water pools in the crotch, and when you stand up it all leaks into the crotch. A nice look on the black track pants when you take off the survival suit.

Snarfy has experienced some uneasy glances at Tim Hortons on the way home................

Yah the bite was a bit tough, we managed to still hit lots of fish but nothng over 10lbs. We'll be out on the water for the next 4 days...so come see us, you know what the boat looks like.

Hi SuperDad,

I had the same leaking problem with my Mustang floater coat. If you check out the Mustang web site, under "Technical FAQ's, they recommend "Scotch Gard Outdoor fabric & gear Water Shield". I bought a can at Canadian Tire for about $10. I sprayed my coat, but haven't had a chance to test it. It stinks until it dries. The water beads off. I hope I stay dry next time I get caught in the rain.

Nice fish Superdad ,as for waterproofing the float suits, I tried it and yes the water beads off at first but not for long , soon after it soaked through , the same as always's ,but watch out , i sprayed the whole suit and when i was driving the boat and took a sharp turn and hit a wave at the same time i almost slid off the seat , it was that slippery, i'm looking at the Arctic Armour suits ,Waterproof Windproof , and they float, so you could use them year round, i'm not sure i like the way they fit ,Canadian Tire in Kingston has them , but high priced so i'm still thinking about it and i looked in the states a lot cheaper ,I don't think they are coast guard approved so you would still have to have life jackets with you, Good luck fishing everyone.
