Quinte Fishing

hi guys, I am really wanting to try and get the walleye fishing down to a science so I got a few curiosity ?'s for the trollers on here.. whats the average speeds you guys usually find best? When I was there last week I could only get from 1.8-2.5 no slower than 1.8..almost wonder if I should try a drift sock?? Also I also use downriggers on Erie and get a fair amount of walleye on spoons.. does anyone ever use spoons in the adopholus on riggers or lead core? If you do, do you find they work much better than body baits?

I usually troll between 1.6 - 1.9 mph. Periodically I will got out of this range, but rarely.

As for spoons they do work here, but not anywhere near as well as on Erie. I typically run one spoon but it rarely fires. In fact I think in the last 3 years I've only got 1 fish on a spoon. Not sure why there is such a dramatic difference in results from Erie to here. One would think they would work fine, but it certainly isn't the case.

Quinte is ruled by reef runners, and TDD11's other baits work and have their days, but the most consistent baits are reef runners and TDD11's.

I agree with scott, just troll as slow as you can, 1.8 is fine but if you are going with the wind consider cutting your motor off or utilize a drift sock or a couple 5 gallon buckets. As for spoons they will catch fish and im sure there are people on here that run them more religiously and successfully than I do. My feeling is that a crank or stickbait will outfish a spoon most days up here.

Got to agree with the foregoing regarding runners and TD's. As for spoons, have had a few walleye on them, however more likely to hit a lake trout as has been the case on a few occasions this past month on Adolphus. I refer to them as my 'sympathy' lakers.... ...can make a 'dead sea' day tolerable....

I find the thing with spoons for Quinte eyes is that in the fall I generally troll from 1-2 mph ( slowing down as the water cools) and most spoons don't get much flutter in that speed range. I think the reason they produce better on Erie is because with the warmer water temps in the summer the fish are more active and won't hesitate to chase down a spoon at even 3 mph. I'm always trying to learn new things and I'm finding that one of the most important factors is finding baits that run well together at a desired speed. The reefies, TD's, and MAnn's all have a slow wobble down to 1 mph.
